I tried to create a mini-image with my backup CD, as i already had Alcohol, but (obviously perhaps) it didnt work.

My original CD is miles away, packed in the orignal box.

I made a full image of my backup CD though, with CDRWIN 3.9, and mounted with Daemon 4.03, with no emulation. Unfortunately i dont have the connection to send 800Mb file though. And it would probably be illegal.

IANAL, but, is there a chance to make the game skip the CD check? According to the EULA, making the game that way doesn't infringes it, because to install the game, you need to already have the CD. Either way if something illegal as adquiring a CD online thru a file sharing service permits the user to use the game without a CD (using Daemon Tools, for example), then why the cd check routine means that the game is original? I did had a copy of the game for backup purposes but now's useless because I can't mount it... (EULA says that I can do that)

        Hi,

When looking for the Call to Power 2 copy protection (which I still have not found, some sites say it's only protected by overburn, others claim Safedisc one or two, and Securom still pops up sometimes) I came across (removed by Locutus) where you can download a nocd patch. There seem to be two versions. With one you first have to install the official Activision patch, the other has the Activision patch included.

Since you own the original CDRom, I don't see any problem here. This is the whole point of the backup story here, to have a working copy if your original doesn't work anymore.

          Tellius,

As much as I sympathise with LemurMadness's situation we on Apolyton DO NOT condone piracy of any sorts and posting links to no-CD cracks is strictly forbidden, regardless of the circumstances. I'll let you off with a warning, but do not let me see you do that again...

          LemurMadness,

I've only skimmed over this thread so I don't know if you're interested in this, but I have a couple of spare copies of CtP2 lying around, untouched and still in plastic (bought them up a few years ago just for these types of situations). They're budget edition (published by Xplosiv), so only a CD in a DVD case, no manual or anything fancy. I would be happy to ship those over to you at cost price (€4 + shipping, which to Panama would be about €3 without case and €6 with). Should you be interested, contact me by PM and we can work out the details (I'm flexible as far as payment method goes).

I was just trying to help someone who

            a) has an official Call to Power 2 disc (I trust him on his word)

            b) has no way of paying with PayPal due to PayPal policy and must therefore resort to Western Union, which is VERY unreliable for several reasons

            c) has no chance to find any official CtP2 cdroms in stores in his land of origin anymore.

            d) could obviously not find anyone with an extra CtP2 cdrom to ship to him for several days after his original post.

Concluding that a person who tries to find solutions for someone in this situation (going step by step from one possible solution to another), must be part of the piracy community and has no respect for the copyright issues involved, is a bit over the top I think. But I stand corrected and will refrain from future postings.

I doubt a no-cd crack or patcher would work because the AE modifies the exe

but according to LemurMadness it is legal to remove the cd check (i.e. make the AE not check)

btw i think the mini image failed because there are audio tracks on the disc, AFAIK there is no real protection on my copy of the game. I made the image i currently use to run the game in Nero a long time ago

I never said that you're part of a piracy community, nor did I think that. But we still can't allow any links to piracy sites -- moral issues aside, it could end up getting Apolyton blacklisted with important people and organisations...
