  • Permanently switch off help messages which appears when you start a new game

    Hello @ all,

does anybody know how to permanently get rid of that annoying tutorial like help messages when you start a game or when you reload a map?

They seem to be helpful if you are a newbie playing c2p2 but for veterans its simply annyoing to switch them off again and again....

        hmmm...

I've tried some switches in userprofile.txt but none of these disables these help messages.

I'm sorry, it is not the tutorial itself I want to disable.
When you start a new game you get some first helpful messages for moving your unit, for a good place to settle etc.
You can disable them by opening the Option menu, choose Game (or simple press "F") and switch the upper left button "help messages" to off. (This is the german version of ctp2 maybe other versions use a different key ... )

There is another file called profile.txt, located in ..\ctp2_data\default\gamedata\ , but changing the settings here won't work too.

Maybe I have to copy userprofile or profile to another folder ?

Where do you find these two files?

i don't know what profile does, but there's only one userprofile. it only affects games that are started after it is edited.

i dont understand what you mean by tutorial like messages that is not the tutorial itself

              perhaps this picture is helpful...
its the beginning of a new game, with zero movement of the settlers.

Thats the tutorial... that only appears on "beginner" and "easy" difficulty level.

                    okay....

I've never looked especially for the tutorial and it doesnt look like a detailed tutorial, it looks a little bit thrifty.
Most times I prefer to play ctp1... nevertheless I dont' need the tutorial.

now...is there a way to switch it off permanently so that it would not appear again when starting a new game or when loading a saved game ?

Playing on a difficulty above "easy" would be the simplest way to avoid the tutorial.

There might be a way to start a beginner/easy level game then turn off the tutorial in userprofile.txt, but its not even worth the bother.

If youre playing the unmodded game, theres very little difference between all the difficulty levels anyway.
