  • Where have I been? Civ4?

Hey now I am not that dense..LOL. Is Civ4 going to be 'better' than CTP2? Is it worth getting? I am fine with learning the new mechanix of how the game plays but will I still be able to build and conquer or play peacemaker and play one side against another?

Anyone here know much about this new game as it compares to CTP2?

I think we are all waiting on those answers... I've opted to wait until christmas to get civIV and see how the community takes it.

I have a 4 day weekend in November a perfect time to get into Civ4 and see how it differs to CtP2.
CtP2 has aged a bit but has been renewed by the mods and code updates and has a way of drawing you into each new story that unfolds in the game.

      Civ4 a better game?
The first review by IGN gives it a 94% and I can believe it as beta testers like Solver have been giving the inside track on whats ahead for us.
Some fans think Civ4 has some features that are found in CtP2 and with the modding tools coming out in Jan.06 (SDK) a CtP3 mod could be made.
I feel that Civ4 offers CtP2 fans a better game in the long run as the modders are already making plans after the 1st of the year.

So whats the story on this? how good is Civ 4?

Bear in mind I was bitterly dissapointed with Civ 3 and it was reboxed never to be played again after a few weeks, compare that to getting on for 3 to 4 thousand game hours with each of Civ1, Civ2, CTP2.

Its way better than civ3 but still some things are missing like stacked combat and anything better than workers. Im sure these will be added in some mod eventually but its not the kind of thing you would use in MP.

For now Ages of Man 2 will be the game I want to invest time in. Not spam here for Stan as he has been allowed to post his game in Civ4 forums .
You can get a Civ4 demo at the bookstore like Borders in one of the computor game mags. Will at least tell if your coumptor can play the game.
Im not buying Civ4 till patches can improve memory problems. Its been a fixed up to a point, but even with a new computor (mines 4months old over 1000 dollars) you will need to invest in a good graphics card and a gig and a half of ram to make Civ4 run without hold ups.
For a turn base game this seems like over kill and plan dumb. I mean who has the money to buy all the upgrades for a game. Oh well lets see what the patches do.

Oh im on a P3 600mhz 356mb 32mb graphics... have a feeling it may not work without even looking at the min required spec.

It was the workers that mostly put me of Cic3, by mid game you were having to move 20+ workers every turn.. I love stacked combat, one of the things thats kept CTP2 going so long I think..

Cheers for the infor... must get myself a look at AOM2

Hmmm maybe that's why i started playing CivIV, because of it's similarities with Ctp2. I like the game very much, but no game can beat the stacking element from ctp2, and that's why ctp2 is still the top on my list.

A few from the CtP forums were and are still involved in Civ4s development, like Locutus and Dale and i think Peter Triggs too, so they definitely wanted that influence.

Have you got the sail around world feat in Civ4 yet?

Yeah i got it once or twice now. But not recently, just my game strategy leads me in other dirrections. Are you willing to give it a MP try sometime?

Yeah i might, but it would have to be small or tiny map because its slow for me. When can you play after you get back or before?
