  • CTP2 wont run.

Used to play CTP2 on my computer.

Having some various problems with Windows 2000 i decided to install XP, and now the game wont start.

The installation of the game runs nice, but i simply cant start the game. When i try to run the game i get a error message.

Is it because the game dont work with XP?

Is there any patches or updates that make the game work with XP?

    Thanks

There are patches, but nothing specifically for XP. It should be possible to start the game.

What is the error message you get, and when does it occur? Note that you have to be quite precise in your description. Something like "start/run the game" may be interpreted as "execute the program from the Windows shortcut", but also as "press the Launch button".

I would check the disc for marks. Because I just picked up a new computor about two weeks ago. CtP2 works fine on my HP along with any mods I play.

I can confirm that CtP2 runs just fine under XP (well, apart from the known bugs that is).

When i click the shortcut icon i get this message:

CTP2.exe has created an error and will be closed.
(the best translation i can do)

It says nothing about what is wrong.
          The CD looks fine...

May there be a problem that im using a laptop?

          Thanks

If it crashes this fast, I don't think the CD is the problem. Do you see anything happening at all (e.g. screen flashing/getting black)?

Anyway, your best bet is trying out the playtest release. I have seen a report some time ago that it helped with a similar problem. And when it doesn't work, we may be able to fix the problem with the information that can be generated (see the "How should I report a bug?"-section in the link) .

              The screen gets black, yes...

              The Crash.txt file says this:

And that is really a crash.txt generated by one of our playtests?

That rather looks like one from the original game, which does not help.

Well, seeing this I would first look whether the Color00.txt is at its place in ..\ctp2_data\default\gamedata\ but since you have installed the playtest it should be there.

Since you mentioned using a laptop: do you have TryWindowsResolution=No in your userprofile.txt? If you have, try setting it to Yes.

I have made some changes to the ColorSet code. Hopefully it will work - or at least crash later - with the next playtest release.
