  • Xplosiv version of CTP II sucks!

So im back after a short hiatus, because i gave up on my game that i was so intent on trying to fix (but couldnt).
Like i said i would hit the "end" button and it would do its rounds with the other computer players and when it got to me the program closed itself and an error message poped up.

so that was the first incident, luckly i have a couple saves. so i started on the one closest to my corrupt game, which was about 300 turns less. anyways i play for about 2 days with some pretty long sessions and when i finally pressed the end button and when it was my turn to make moves once again the program closed itself and that error message popped up again.

i dont know what it is, another member here took my DL and said it was fine, and i dont want to look for the F'n problem, so instead im looking at Chipsbits, (saw their ad on 1 of my mags), where they have one for $19.95, taht doesnt include shipping.

anywho just letting you guys know, as if you already didnt know going cheap isnt always the greatest way to go.

Xplosiv CTPII = $10. (crashes my games, and music stutters)
Original CTPII (im hoping) = $20+ (shipping not included)

I'm sorry to hear you're having so much problems but it's unlikely that it's the Xplosiv version causing it, as the Xplosiv and 'original' game are EXACTLY 100% identical. I know this as I have both versions installed next to each other. The only difference is in the installer (and the absence of paper manual and tech chart), but that should not cause the problems you're describing.

Earlier Martin posted that the problem that was causing your crashes is solved in the Apolyton Edition of the game, so downloading that version may well solve your problems. This Apolyton Edition is an improved version of the game that is being developed right here on this website. Although it's still under construction it's quite stable and entirely playable, you can find instructions on how to download it here (read the part of that first post from the heading 'Mini FAQ' onwards).

Oh, and don't be surprised if the Chips 'n Bits version isn't the original version, that's no longer being produced. So it would have to be a left-over they've had on their shelves for many, many years, which seems extremely unlikely. More likely is that they're just ripping their customers off by selling a budget version for waaayyyyy too much money.

yea im still iffy if i should buy the chips and bits version and still contemplating on an ebay CTP II purchase.

i have tried the patch and really it is the disc itself. the songs in the intro stutters and sometimes the music stutters, i also get weird messages during game play like:
        "Hatsuput"?
"noyon" and it has that eye button so u can goto it without looking for the city, when i click it, it just goes to a grassland
        "economics"?
or sometimes i get a thing asking if i should accept or stay longer?

its really annoying i dont even know what is happening sometimes with the message system F'd up.

AND no i did not cheat, although i tried to cheat in the other game where i was crashing by deleting some enemies to try to fix the crash so that didnt work. and the lastest game ive been playing i also didnt cheat.

        my system specs:
        Win XP Pro
        192mb ram
        160gig
        128mb ati

I've been playing the Xplosiv version for 18 months now (with the 1.1 patch since I dscovered Apolyton) without any problems (apart from the known CtP2 bugs). Si I can only think that you've got a duff CD or there was a faulty installation.

          Have you tried re-installing?

Ah, that is a classic problem. What you did is install the patch and then continue to play your old savegames. Normally a patch obsoleteles all old safegames, you shouldn't be playing them at all anymore. If you start a new game, you will not get any of those messages. You can still 'fix' your old savegames though, if you still want to finish those games: press the '-key and in the chat window type "/reloadslic" (without quote) and hit enter twice. The messages should no longer appear.

But to really be able to assess the game as it stands, play a few new games and report any problems you have here. It could be that your problems all can be traced back to just playing with old savegames after the patch, or it could be that your disk is physically damaged, or it could be that it's something else. If you provide detailed info here, we may be able to help you...

What are these problems you get if you continue old games, besides the message text problem? As far as I know there aren't any.
