  • Should a size 1 city employ a farmer?

Employing a farmer in this case goes against my grain, but its been suggested, and I'm probably will use it next time I build a city. Opinions? Facts?

Generally it takes the same time to produce something in a size 1 city using a farmer until size 2/3 as how long it takes without that 1 farmer, so why not use the farmer until size 2/3? Youll still get the build in around the same time, except your original city will now be bigger than without the farmer. Except if the city is on all grassland and river it doesnt seem worth it.

As for solid facts, someone else will have to give you that answer.

It also depends on how fast the city grows, if the city is in the middle of a mountain and it doesn't grow at all you need a farmer definatly. On the other hand you can calculate how long it is to the next pop. For instance your city has 15045 inhabitants, and it has a growth rate of 500 inhabitants per turn. In this case you have to wait ten turns until you reach the next pop. If you think this is too long engage an farmer otherwise don't do it.
