      • ouch, the barbarians are really proving to be troublesome. I still think there is some hope for our survival, taking back Maq, and Hip shouldn't be too hard. I think we should then try to take on the mongols and hexogonia as they are the only ones we can compete with militarily.

Unless E got his computer back I guess its back to Maq finally

        • Welcome back Huang Shang.

1760 BC Byzantine's capture Hippo from the Barbs.
Barb 2 stack attacks Apolytonia and loses to no loss on our side.

1740 BC Jav Cav sees barbarians moving out of Maq. so move a 4 stack out of Apolytonia next to Maq.

1720 BC 4 stack recaptures Maquiladonia to no loss!
Carthaginian 10 stack moves next to Apolytonia, with now only 3 inside to defend...

1700 BC Byzantine Bireme starts pillaging our coastline, IDIOTS!
Hippo has revolted from the Byzantines to form the Ku****e empire.
Byzantine 3 stack attacks EPW. and loses to no loss on our side.

1680 BC The Mongols conquer the Ku****es.

1660 BC Mongolian 3 stack and the Carth. 10 stack move next to Apolytonia.

We're coming close to Hoplites now and my powers of file opening tell me it costs 280gld to upgrade one spearman to a hoplite. I guess you cant save much in the few turns we have left, but if on the last turn you can lower the science tax and still get Bronze working in the same time do it.

            • The Reign of Service Pack 2

1600BC- SP2 takes the thrown of Macedonia and claims he will bring new security to the war torn nation. His first act is to ask the Carthaginians to remmove themselves from our land...the promptly refuse.

The Carthaginians then take Maqualadonia with their army of legions.

1540BC- I kill a barbarian nomad outside Apolytonia resulting in diplomatic tensions.

              Maqualidonia falls to barbarians.

1520BC- Maqualadonia is recaptured after the barbarians are seen leaving the city...

The Mongols attack Perinthus but we survive losing one spearmand.

1480BC- Apolytonia attacked by Barbarians, we lose 2 spearman but when the battle.

1440BC- Aplytonia attacked again by Barbs but survives.

1420BC- Bronze working researched, able to upgarde 4 of 7 spearman to hoplites.

              1400BC- Service Pack 2 dies.

As you'll see I've mainly concentrated on javelin cavalry, once we get 12 of those we can try either attacking the mongols or trying to pick off a city deep inside another civs borders that hopefully lightly defended. In other new, the Greeks have clearly become the dominate force in our regoin, beating up on both theCarthaginians and Byzantines. It looks like the Barbarians are being pushed back a bit but are still very powerful to us.

                • EPW, what happened to ur grammar?

... the bracket for the main map shows a very empty area, a little better for starting than our position, also the island group at the south end looks inviting... just geologically speaking

Due to the fact that I was in a hurry about writing the summary. ( Not with the game of course ) I suppose I could edit it and make it sound nicer.

I was thinking along the same lines, a mass exodus might be in order to save our empire. The problem with the Islands, although the safest, is that they are very far away and would be vunerable from attack. We have already seen from the Byzantines that the AI does have ships. I've made another map showing the terrain features and circling likely expansion locations.

1- Close to us, but near the Powerful Harrapan and the weaker Persians. Also has good land.

2- Also close, good land, but near the Greeks and Estruscan.

3- Farther away, Lots of room, a bit more isolated from the other civs (still dangerous though). Land isnt as good.

4- Safest, farthest, land isn't bad. Dangerous journey however....

                      • My first choice was 2 because its closer, but we would come under pressure from barbs and too soon the Greeks to really establish ourselves. But now i say 4, because theres TOTAL safety from barbs on the tiny islands and the Persians are close by, who are much weaker than the Greeks, whome we have at least a chance of conquering. Beach is the best land and the AI is usually very bad at sea. The only hard part is getting there.

So if we're voting i'd go for 4.

                        • 1400- i declare war on mongol... walk into karakorum

                          1360- greek 12stack haunts EPW

1340- thought a heavily slavemaster(4) stack, 12 greeks walk alive into EPWopolis

1320- 12greeks head for the capitol, a quick cav secure EPW behind them, but the future looks bleak
                          peace w/ carth

1300- now the byzantine wants a piece of us

1280- Maq falls in the hands of barbs

1240- greek take capitol... entire empire of three cities riot
we got a lot of negatives in the city income and w/ only a 2 in the treasury, the national income if -102

1220- apolytonia recaptured, but we still lack a capitol, which can finish in 10 turns in preinus

1200- ...the tiny military murders yet another ruler

four cities, a mongol city w/ 3 defenders staring down 12 greeks, a 4stack guarding a future capitol, a single cav running between cities, and 2 cities empty if you dont count the cav, but hippo and alex are both empty of units... maybe we can strike, but we'll never get rid of the greeks

as for relocation... i have to agree, it seems that the mongols have taken over our postion in this four corner war and trapped us

i never thought about position 1 before i saw it on the map, but i think it is a great position to jump to 4 from

and on defense, i think the tragedy of my turn is that the greeks crushed each garrisson because they were occupied in their own cities and i tried not to leave one city, but to still contribute more units in the path before the greeks... especially now that almost all the units are gone, i propose a new route of defense:

maintaina stack of 12 w/ the borders, leaving only garrissons for martial law, border patrol and capitol defense, that way, 12 stacks that just walk around taking cities and then leaving, like mongols in real life or the greeks in the game, can be efficiently stopped

                            • 1200 BC Byzantine's capture an empty EPW.
Nomad started in Penithus, hopefully it will be ready before all our cities are gone.

1180 BC Greek 12 stacks takes Karakorum.
I empty Apolytonia because its surrounded by Byzantine armies.

                              1160 BC Byzantine's capture EPW-opolis.

1140 BC I recapture EPW. with 2 units and burnt it to the ground to prevent them recapturing it.

1120 BC Recaptured Maq., its now size 1, i disband it for a nomad.

1100 BC 4 turns to new nomad in Perinthus.
Byzantine 8 stack is ready to attack Perinthus on their next turn...
Etruscan 10 stack moves next to our disbanded nomad.
3 turns to nomad in Perinthus.

1080 BC Byzantine 8 and 2 stack wait outside Perinthus.
Mongolian bireme kills Byzan. bireme and their 2 stack tries to beat the Byzantine's to Perinthus...
Etruscan 10 stack kills our disbanded nomad.
                              2 turns to new nomad.

1060 BC Attack Byzantine city Hippo with one Jav Cav and kill one archer inside to take the city, i keep the city. Will try to starve it for a Nomad.
Move our coracle out of Perinthus to hide on the coastline.
Byzantines attack Perinthus with their 2 stack and lose, leaving one injured Slinger...

                              1040 BC
1 turn to new nomad in Perinthus.
Etruscans and Mongols both demand 100gld or they will attack, i agree to both... then the Mongols attack Perinthus anyway and take it.

1020 Barb elephant attacks Hippo and dies.
Mongolians move their 2 stack out of Perinthus.

                              1000
I move our Jav Cav out of Hippo to retake it........................

Upto to turn 300 and could be the end...
