      Yep

      Woohoo - we're on google!

Oh, and Fast Write option is grayed out and says 'Off'.

Black_Knight1, the RoN news page is talking about a graphic card problem that could be related to yours, there is a link to another forum where some hints are given in order to solve the problem experienced:

Well, after further investigating this issue, and more tricks to try (3rd party programs, etc), I am no closer to a solution than when I started. The only thing that seems to affect the amount of flickering is turning down the AGP from 8X to 4X. The game (and other games listed before) still flicker, but its not so intense.

Guess this is one of those unsolved issues that won't go away. Maybe if I upgraded to WinXP, things will be different, but that will be a cold day in hell indeed. :P

Heck I would take Win95 over Win 2000 any day!

I would have said that for a long time, but recently I discovered that Win95 doesn't support FAT32, so I think it's just not good enough for modern computers... It has to be Win98 .

Yeah, Win98 is clearly superior, but in my (quite vast) experience with 2000, it has always been a piece of crap, for recognising software and hardware, being a decent office workstation system or a home one. OK, I can accept it at some office workstations where some basic security is needed (not that it's a terribly secure system, but still), but for home use or games, never. And even for offices, I'd prefer NT4. I haven't actually seen NT4 have such issues as 2000 does.

Well, I am running out of ideas...

About WinXP, I am quite happy with it, it requires some dedication the first weeks but now I am used to it I won't go back to Win98. Perhaps will I one day install Win98 on an old computer but only to play older DOS games or games unplayable under WinXP like Pacific General.

Not that I play many old games.... but I actually have everything working under XP better than it ever did under Win 98. I remember that I couldn't imagine going back to 98 a week after I installed XP.

Pacific General is the only software that has resisted my attemps to have older games running on my WinXP computer.

Actually one more thing to check, or better to say worth a check:

Try to find for your motherboard the latest bios.

                        For asus: http://uk.asus.com/

I remember I read somewhere that a lot of motherboard producers have (had) problems with APG8. So it might be worthwhile to install a new bios. Don't be afraid, I never had problems with biosupgrade on asus, just check that the download matches the indicated length.

                          Win98 superior

I still prefer W95, plus it is getting more and more secure as people don't 'know' how to hack it anymore

Stability: I hardly ever have any problem with my W95. My 2000-**** at work is compared instable..........

Well, Windows 95 has a somewhat lacking convenience of use for me now seems to have trouble with newer hardware and some stuff like that.

OK, agreed........but for my old hardware I don't have any problems

And as most of my drives a SCSI, I don't have to bother about anything.........

I have the same problem my self, Running WinXP Pro. The common factor here is the Radeon card. I have a 9700 and suffer all the same issues as you do. Game installs then once i try run i get that dreaded little window telling me sorry for the inconvienience but the game has just shat itself.

on the flip side though, spending a bit more time at the girls house - her windows 98 antique has worked its way back into my affections err and of course the quality time spent with my good lady - I must stress that!
