  • Commies and production..

Ok I am playing Super Apoly Gigantic map and I am now a communism. When I go to national tab and compare to say any other Gov, on the production line is says 'null'. Does this mean it is Terrible at production? I thought it was great. Please explain and while you are at it, what tile improvements will help boost science? if any...

Not sure why youre getting that "null" thing, could be something wrong with the text files in Apolyton Pack for ranking governments.

You can get tile improvements for commerce and commerce is divided between gold and science depending on your science tax, set in the empire manager.

Commerce improving tile imps are, Trading Posts, Ports, Drilling Platform, Mall, Nature Preserve and also Adv Mines, Mega Mines, Adv Undersea Mines, Mega Undersea Mines give +5 commerce aswell as production.

So what are the production levels of a communist Gov? It must be better than say a Democracy, correct?

To find the exact values look in APOL_goven.txt in ...\ctp2_data\default\gamedata.

Communism is alot better than Democracy in production, because Communism supports more units for less production and it collects more production from tiles too. But Democracy has much better Growth and Science but if you look, Communism has better commerce than Demo, and science is calculated from commerce, so take your pick basically.

Ah ok, as Ive said before I am playing a superapoly gigantic map with 12 other AIs. I was just wondering if I was getting a benefit for having a communism or not. Also from reading and using ...Democracy seems a tough gov to wage war with. Now here is my question. Most if not ALL other civs (AIs) are currently using a Democracy, do they suffer from the same inherent problems as I would??..eg. High cost of military units, the need to keep em happy or revolts, and such? This thought just occured to me and that is why I went commie. Please give me your insight as it is and is there anything I could do to take advantage (hehehe) of the AIs having a democracy?

Yes. AI's are subject to the same limitations that you are, in a particular government. They get bonuses for being behind... or slight penalties for being ahead, but nothing massive.

An AI under democracy is less able to commit to war than the same AI under a government such as Communism or Facism.

You can probably exploit the AI's using warfare no matter what... although its certainly easier under Communism.

The game is largely based on a PW economy... so Communism does just fine.

Occassionally, its useful to go massively into PW construction (80-90%.) Always fill the 1st and 2nd rings with improvements first. Its usually worth placing a new improvment, rather than upgrading an existing one however.

Think production TI's first.. which will give you more PW's for subsequent building of Commerce TI's... that is provided you don't cause too big a pollution mess with them.
