  • med mods with more than 8 civs

Has anyone played out any games to the end using one of Wes's Med Mods and more than 8 civs?

The reason I ask is that the last two games I played, one with public release 3.0 and the other with beta 4.0.3 both reached a point where the games seem to enter some sort of loop. In both cases I was playing with 16 civs. The symptoms are as follows. Sometime in the mid/late game around 2000 to 2300 I end a turn and the ai begins working its way through the other civs. Eventually it reaches a point where the music is still playing, the mouse still moves but the turn doesn't end, ai units stop moving and although the mouse moves, nothing can be selected.

If I back up a few turns and play things differently the game still 'hangs' in the same place.

I am interested in figuring out whether this has to do with the number of civs I'm using. I must say, its kind of the pits to play for 30-40 hours and then have the game just hang.

Glad to see you finally posted this, Jim. I too am eager to see what responses you get.

I have had the same problem lots of times. I often play with 16 to 28 civs.

This slow-down comes and goes. I can last for only 3-4 turns and but sometimes 10-15 turns. I have wrote about it a couple of times. When "slow-down" are active, a turn can take up to 20-25 minutes. The problem or slow-down comes more and more often as the turns goes by. Could it be the slic-programming and upgrade of garrisons??!

Only a very few times the "slow-down" didn't solve itself. One time the game did stop (I waited for more than 2 hours), 2 times the game stopped and then crashed. I have not written down when, but between turn 200 and turn 350.

One thing indicates if this is going to happen. If it takes looooong time to load the game, it will surely come.

A few weeks back, playing with Med Mod 3.0 vs. 15 AI opponents, I made it to 3000AD without noticable problems. I have had lockups oriented around music track changes, but I've since turned the music off and have experienced no slowdowns or lockups. Since that first game, I've decreased the number of opponents to 11 and upped the difficulty level, and while the AI does take a short while to cycle through turns later on in the game, I have experienced no more problems. This info pertains to 3,0 only, as I haven't tried 4.0 yet.
And, once again, outstanding job, Wes (and everyone else involved).
