the number of the civ2 db is since september 98(not since release of civ2!) when it started and is missing a few thousand downloads due to problems we used to have with the scripts.

My conclusion is:
Cctp out of box is such a crap that everyone looks for something that could make it at least pleable...
I myself have played civ2 for years and the only thing that I ever downloaded was the latest patch...
But after one week of playing Ctp I had already downloaded at least 10 files...One Life One Game...

Yes, I've pretty well only plyed CTP as a LAN game. I probably gave up on SMAC too easily but I have to amit CTP captivated me and SMAC simply didn't.
Katy says some options to build don't seem to appear on the build options but I don't know whether that's a fault of the non hosted game or not. In general for LAN I've not had any real faults - the only one is the destroyer crash - and as far as I can tell to resolve would only take Activision to re-create the Sprite without one indicator set - I'm just amazed they haven't been bothered!

Morgoth, I'm glad you enjoy CTP on a LAN. I have to agree with you, I now believe that it is the way to play CTP. Its great being able to smirk at your opponents after you win some great battle, or capture one of their settlers after sneaking your slaver around their lands. I hope you get the chance to play against more than one opponent because even though I am sure Katy gives you a challenge, the shifting alliances which develop during the game as the weaker players gang up on the leading player add a whole other dimension to the game.
We haven't noticed a build problem, nor have we experienced the destroyer crash. (We play on the lowest resolution and don't use the zoom controls. I thought that was supposed to cause that crash).
Wes- Considering all the work that you have put into your mods for this game I can understand how you were disappointed with Activisions response. However I think that Markos’s point is well made, I wouldn’t really have expected a more useful answer from a standard help desk .
Looking on the bright side (as you usually do), would you not be interested in another version of CTP which improves what we have and corrects some of its perceived failings?

I would have to see exactly what is in the sequel/expansion pack before I pass judgment on it.
If they give us a true advance, *and* implement the stuff already written in but unused, then I would pay for it.
I will be mad if they want us to pay out more money for just putting in a diplomacy model comparable to SMAC, and implementing things like what we have already done with the AAips and the SLIC group's triggers.
What ticked me off about the Activision response was the way they said it, which was like "we don't tell nobody nuthin'".

Do you remember the user replacable .DLL file (Robotcom.DLL) that contain all of the game AI.
They wanted to do a small beta test prior to releasing the headers to everibody. I was supposed to be part of it but they putted it on the shelves when they started to work on CTP II.
I have no infos as to what will be CTP II but we had hints by the lead programmer that it would contain Diplomaty improvments, he even said once it would be a complete re-write. I was even told by him that they were currently at work on it. Of course that was not official and long ago and I guess subject to change.
I tell you what I would do if I were them. I would do an expansion pack and bundle it with the original game. In it I would mainly improve on Diplomaty and change the interface, it would also be tempting to change the tech tree, units, etc. as it do not require any programmer to be perform.
Those (Interface, Diplomaty and play balance) were I think the 3 biggest criticism of the game. They would have good chances to sell it to current owners and also good chances to attract those who did not purchased the game the first time.
For one I would welcome any good additions they make to the game. I loved the game but it grew old on me much faster then I tought it would.
