Building the Wormhole Sensor, Wormhole Detector and Wormhole Probe

I'm trying to win the game by completing the "Alien Life Project", but after discovering the Wormhole advance, the Wormhole Sensor, Wormhole Detector and Wormhole Probe do not show up in my building list. What could be wrong?

You might be in bloodlust mode.

Check your current default setting by starting a new game and clicking the rules button before you launch. If bloodlust is on then it was probably on when you started the game in which there's a problem (unless you've changed it since...)

This problem has come up a few times where the player wasn't in bloodlust and still couldn't build the wormhole sensor (which is the same thing as the detector, isn't it?) and AFAIK noone ever gave a satisfactory answer.
