  • Easy Mod 3.3 question?

I just downloaded EasyMod 3.3. I have a question, is it as easy to use as it looks?

Also, it looks as though you simply make a scenario, with the approiate directories, and then launch this EasyMod3.3 and just load the scenario and "tweak" or "alter" the files and characteristcis you want?...if thats so..sa-weet!

I mean, I dont mind playing with files, but after looking at text files in Units.txt for awhile, ~whew~ this makes it look a lot easier!

I never used it, I never really trusted it for some reason. I prefer making manual changes, gives me full control over what exactly gets changed.

Anyway, I think there are a few known bugs but if you know about them (I hope they're explained in the readme, if not you could try to search the forum) I guess it's easy to use, others have used it successfully in the past.

I could never make EasyMod edit the Great Library properly. In the end I wrote my own program (actually many programs...) to do the editing for me. I knew I could trust my own work . I have one extremely unstable GUI for editing the main files like units.txt and lots of little applets which will do all sorts of neat things - mostly generating the GL entry files (there's *so* many of them), but also stuff like automatically setting advance costs and so forth. I'm working on a GUI editor for CTP2 which I might later be able to modify for CTP (I tried to keep that possibility in mind as I programmed).

Main advantage of EasyMod as I saw it is that it lets you quickly work out the hyperlink numbers for the GL. Main disadvantage is that it takes too many clicks to get anything done. Too many little windows...

Well, I wish you good luck in whatever you do.

        Jay,
Are any of your home-made progs in a state where they could be released to the general public? It hopefully won't be too long anymore before the CtP1 File Database is fixed so that new files can be added to it again. It would be nice to be able to add some of your files to it once that time is there...

            1) GUI = Graphical User Interface. Opposite of textual user interface. You know, Windows vs DOS, Easymod vs NotePad/EditPlus...

            2) Great Library, yes. Actually, you don't have to be a mod to know that abbreviation, most players know it as well. You NEWBIE!!!

He was going to get some "essentials" with the few remaining dollars they had prior to going to Colorado, he had a HUGE Cowboy hat on, a paddle with a rubber ball, and stopped to get a copy of some sex magazine from a newspaper dispenser, and he siad to her, "you know, despite what people say, although old and senile, you older folks do have something to contribute to scoiety!' and as he walked off, he said.."Now dont you going dieing on me now, you hear me!"

Well... Erm... Probably not, no. The GUI one - as I said - is totally unstable. If you don't know all its little quirks you'll quickly destroy your data files. I only bugfixed far enough to make it useable by me, not by anyone else. All the others are QuickBASIC and in order to use them you'd probably have to fiddle and tweak the source code a little for any particular situation (And there are naturally very few comments ). I'd happily give the source code out if anyone else if they use QB, but compiled versons would not be particularly useful.

Otherwise, I still hope to be able to adapt CTPEd for CTP1 (There's a reason I didn't call it CTP2Ed, you know ) - if only for the practice it will give me with adapting OOP concepts - That's what OOP is supposed to be good for, after all... CTPEd already incorporates nearly all the things my other programs could do. Of course, I don't know how far off this would be, or if I'd get round to it at all... RL has a nasty habit of sneaking up on you when you least expect it .

(Glossary: OOP = Object Oriented Programming, only I'm using VB6, so it really only qualifies as Object Based, not Oriented)
