  • I hope someone helps me out here...

    Here's the problem:
When I try to play a multiplayer game, it takes a long time to detect servers, then it only detects one random server, with a ping of 1800 (!). Inside, there are only the Gaul and Ur lobbies. And when I get in a game, the games gets so slow that it's simply impossible to play. It gets so laggy that, when one passes a turn, the other one receives the command that he passed the turn only about 5 minutes later. And I use ADSL connection, every other things I use in the internet work ok.
Something else, I can't apply the patch to 1.21/earlier because my version of CTP is portuguese (I live in Brazil) and there are no available patches for the portuguese version, I've looked everywhere. I've tried applying an english patch but it didn't work either. I know the patch helps out somehow, but it's no use for me (unless there's a hidden portuguese CTP patch out there somewhere).
Well, that's it. Please help me out, I really want to play CTP on multiplayer... I can't even play PBEM because of the unavailability of a portuguese patch.
    Thanks.

I haven't received any replies yet... I really want to play on multiplayer.
I'll accept every help, even if it only helps a little bit. Please? Anything will do.

Exactly why does the English Patch not work? Is it just a language thing, or does it give an error message?
      Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

You might try renaming your language directory to english and then installing the patch - I have no idea what that would do though...

          Thanks for replying...
The error shown when I try to apply the patch is this one: "You do not need to run this updater. It does not apply to your version of Civilization: Call to Power."
I tried renaming the language directory to english and changing the civpaths.txt, but it still didn't work.
I don't really care the language I play in, I just want to try to play on the internet. Also, if there any ways that you know what would greatly decrease Civ:CTP ping, please let me know. Thanks.

You may have to buy an english copy of CTP, it only costs GBP5 in the UK now. I think there's a DVD version in umpteen languages, too.

Last week I have a problem like you with a server ping of 2000 and when available just a couple of rare servers appear.

I was using my laptop not my PC, but by the same ISP by phone at 56K, but before I can play with ping near 200.

After 20 phone calls I was shure it wasn't an ISP problem but my laptop. So I take a deep review on my TCP/IP settings and guess what, my laptop was using a DNS Configuration.

The host was avantel, with his own address 200.33.209.66
BUT my ISP is AT&T so I guess all my trafic were sent trough both gateway servers and it make a realy bad job

I simple disabled the DSN and let AT&T do the job and I have all the servers again.
              ------

And about your language problem I post my ctp.exe on my site for you download, I don't know if it could work but take a try ok.

The files is already patched with 1.21,

download the 3 files in the same directory and launch the self extractor.

Edit: I don't know why the error message for the extension .r00 or .r01, as the only one every one can download is .exe I just rename all files to exe.

When finish download just quit the exe at the end of the files to get the .r00 and .r01

Thanks, BerXpert. But when I tried getting those files on your page, I received this message:

                -------
                Forbidden
Host: [(my ip was here)] dl-adsl-sao-C8B6CD40.sao.terra.com.br

You do not have permission to access http://berxpert.20m.com/ctp/civctp.sfx.r00
The extension is currently not supported by 20m Free Web Space

If you think there is an error or you wish to have the extension added to the mime definitions, please take the time to notify customer support.

Thank you for using 20m Free Web Space.
                -------

It happened only to .r00 and .r01. I got the .exe one fine.
Could you please zip it or just rename it to another extension? I can't download it. Also, I want to know if the patch only updates the ctp.exe or if there's another file it updates... If it updates any other file, then I'll probably need it too.
I have another question though. Although I don't think there is a way, but is there any way to set up a server on my own computer? I mean, I want to play with a friend I know irl... so it would be a lot faster if the server was here.
                Thanks.

The 1.21 patch certainly only affects the .exe, but the 1.2 patch affects other files too. For instance, it adds a new message that appears when you complete construction of a building, and a few others too. Offhand, I think that it must change script.slc, messageicon.txt and ldl_str.txt. That's the reason that the language of the patch matters - the civctp.exe *should* be the same for all languages - they certainly went to a lot of trouble to make it easy to change to other languages.

If none of the above works, you'll have to try getting a copy of the 'english' directory - but probably the executable knows it's not the english version.

Boy, I'm glad I speak English but I do feel sorry for everyone else .

                  John

Well... thanks... But it didn't work.
My computer crashed with a "illegal operation" message when I tried to enter multiplayer.
Maybe I'll just give up... thanks anyway.
Or I could try finding all the files CTP patch updates... Hmm... I don't know if anyone knows all of them. If you do, please let me know.
