  • CTP2 sprites

Discovering that CTP2 sprites are the same as CTP ones gives me an idea. I don't own CTP2, but I was looking at the avatars page and noticed a few which appear to be CTP2 sprites and which could be useful for modmakers in general (and me in particular) in CTP. Would it be breach of copyright or anything similarly illegal to use these sprites in CTP? If not, could someone who does own CTP2 package & document the new sprites and pop them up on either the Apolyton site or another (since I hear that the man responsible is rushed off his feet at the moment). Of course, we'd be short the pictures, but even if noone's managed to figure out how to extract them from the .zfs files (are there the same files in CTP2?) then there's always screenshots...

Failing such an ambitious project, could I just have a copy of the infector, slaver, stealth fighter, stealth bomber, paratrooper, nuke, cruise missile, artillery, tank, fusion tank, marine, machine gunner, fascist, PT boat and alpha transporter from CTP2 by e-mail. Sprites alone would be fine, but pictures too would be better . That will cut the sprite duplication that's currently rampant in my scenario to almost nothing.

I bet now you tell me that the sprites in CTP2 are all compressed too, and there's no way to access them . Or that it's illegal . But I live in hope.

Although the CTP1 sprites can be used in CTP2, the CTP2 sprites have a slightly different format and can't be used in CTP1. At least, that's what I've been told.

      That's certainly odd.

Oh well, never mind then. Unless somebody else knows different. (I still live in hope ).

I've heard that CTP2 sprites cannot be used, but that custom sprites, created by users can. So you can have a look at some CTP2 pages and try to find some custom sprites that you could use, plus it will probably not be illegal if you give the proper credits.
However, you should be careful when using CTP2 sprites, I haven't done it myself as now, I have downloaded a few but still not tested.
I'll tell more when I will have tested them.

I've already downloaded and used user CTP2 sprites. They appear to be working fine. I'm just in dire need of more post-modern but pre-battlebot infantry sprites. At the moment there's 6 units using the machine gunner sprite, so I need 5 replacements . The CTP2 machine gunner, marine and paratrooper would have helped, but never mind. If I ever get CTP2, I could try taking screenshots, but I doubt that I'll ever buy it. I need the space layer .

I own both CTP 1 and CTP 2, and I tried using some sprites from CTP 2 in my scenario for CTP 1 . . . . no go. The game reported that the sprite files were were version 2.0, and that it was looking for sprites version 1.2. Oh well.

As is stated in other forums, user-created sprites work in CTP 2 the same reason CTP 1 sprites work in CTP 2: all user-created sprites are CTP 1 sprites (the Sprite Tool makes sprites for CTP 1).

I just got given a copy of CTP2, so now I can start taking screenshots (this could be fun...) Maybe I'll fiddle with the tile editor first to see if I can organise a black background. Obviously I'll lose all the animation, but I don't care too much, because it'd all make the scenario too big anyway.

If you're not worried about losing the animation and just want a one frame graphic to represent the unit..........why not cut a frame from the *.avi's or open the picture zfs and take what u want from there. Then it's just a matter of targa conversion. I've got the amazon and starcraft sprites and associated icon/picture files edited for the original ctp on a webpage listed with my profile here also.

That sounds a little too complicated. I might need some video editing software or something

More likely. In fact, I've taken the screen shots already and gone to the trouble of cleaning them up - but thanks for the idea, I'll do that from now on. Unfortunately other problems overwhelm these concerns at present, like those wierd crashes I was talking about in the other thread.

Took a look, looks good, you might like to know that some of the sprites listed as from Starcraft are in fact from Warcraft II (e.g. the boats - you don't get boats in Starcraft), and some of them from neither of those games.
