The game pictures all need to be in 16-bit targa form, yet I've tried four different image programs, and they all claim that there is no such format when you try to save. The wierdest is PSP (v4.12), which I have never known to fail me before. This will open existing files and proclaim them as 16-bit targas in the image properties, but It refuses to save in that format - it gives you the option, and yet when you choose it, save, and then go back to the file it has been saved in 24-bit format. I've consulted with a friend with PSP v6, and he has the same problem. Can someone please point me towards a freeware/shareware program which will change 24-bit tgas to 16-bit tgas.

PSP7 can save as 16-bit targas just fine. The trial version on the JASC website is 7.02 which works fine too. Try http://www.jasc.com

Blackice's link did the trick (The PSP 7 download is too big - I'll do it when I get home & have free online time). Thanks.

Unfortunately, the files get bigger when I decrease the bit depth . I guess it must be saving them uncompressed. But I'll just have to grin and bear it - they should compress well into the .zip later.

        Thanks again,
