I've been playing CTP2 for quite some time now. How does it compare to CTP1? Are they essentially the same game, or is it worth having both?

CTP1 has usable multiplayer facilities (Hotseat and PBEM actually work...)
With CTP1 I found that for some reason the game was actually a lot more fun to play. In CTP2 there is far too much clicking to do, and it becomes a task to play.
However the games are very similar, CTP2 has been called CTP1.0000001, the only major differences being the unit graphics, science victory change, different version of SLIC and the interface.
Again, it really depends on how cheaply you can get it. For $6 mentioned in the other thread here, its probably worth getting it, at least to compare to CTP2, and play PBEM games.Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

I enjoyed CTP1 more than CTP2. And I am not the only one . Many CTP1 players didn't liked CTP2 or even didn't buy it. They are quite similar though and if you started with CTP2 might not worth it to buy CTP1 unless you can find a very cheat copy as mentioned and mostly by curiosity. But if you would like to play CTP by email then you should buy it! I have and am playing quite many PBEM games and it's fun! Certainly a reason to buy it, if you are interested on playing via email though...
