  • Maybe an easy overseen solution to playing CTP 1 & 2 in windows 8.1 ?

You CAN play BOTH on Windows 8.1 (haven't tried 8.0/ Win 7 though) !
Remember to install ALL THE STUFF with administrators rights !!!
    * And let it be accepted by AntiVirus programs & Firewalls etc.*
(For Comodo users : YES to Don't isolate it again)

    1. First install CTP 1 (it won't work yet)

    2. Get the official patch (CtP v1.2 Patch)

    3. Update CTP1 with CtP v1.2 Patch and reboot .

    4. No, it won't work yet ....

    5. THEN get the V1.21 Hack and update CTP 1 with this hack !
Win 8.1 will try to stop this and ask You to cancel ... But don't accept that !

    6. Now the game will start, BUT when You enter CTP1 Library -
the game-window will minimize to Your desktop ....
This is caused by 1 or 2 pop-ups saying ex.g. "Video error" "Unable to open the file
    (and other stuff ...)"
Perhaps there are other instances where this minimize-pop-up-behaviour will occur in the gameplay !

    7. Close the pop-up-boxes, maximize CTP1 again and You can continue
and even search in the "unable-to-open" library

    8. The above library-bug-behaviour doesn't influence the game otherwise .

    9. However the music only plays one melody and stops . This is more annoying;
to miss CTP 1's many-styled-music, doh ! But You could extract the music
and let the numbers play repeatedly from the harddisk . Still looking for a solution

to hear the numbers from the CD-drive itself ...

    So many views ...? (125)

*****__Update (since nobody else has information to share ?) on CTP 1 on Win 8.1 :

I've encountered three pop-up's one time ! If the game minimizes (i.e. after clicking on library)
and You can't see any of the pop-up's, remember they are behind Your other open windows ...
So "get down" to the desktop and You'll see them !

As a temporary solution to the missing music (after one melody) I found CTP1's on a very popular
videochannel where You can set it to play repeatedly & randomly - though sometimes the playback
gets "stuck" and You must reload/refresh the webpage ...

I tried to run the CTP1: Forever Future 1.7 + latest update, but it says something about a missing
greek/civilization nr. 31 etc. Will try Forever Future 1.7 + latest update later as I was in a hurry .

Otherwise I enjoy this game - at last playing ! So many years without this wonderfull gem-mine !
Even the new Civ5 BNW is still borrowing from it : East India Company !!! Compare effects ...

I was having crashes on start in Windows 8.1, and I solved them. For anyone having similar problems in Windows 8 (and probably also Windows 7) see here: http://apolyton.net/showthread.php/2...t-in-Windows-8
