  • Food Riots Problem

I'm a new player who had CTP stored unopened for 10 years and now have installed it on XP and added patch 1.2 and hack 1.2.1.
As I said I'm a newbie and have been messing with CTP for a week of learning.

One re-occurring problem is Riots caused by Net Food = 0. I have problems with about half of my cities (currently 10 on the game I'm playing). I move the workers to the best Food tiles, I try the Max Food button, I add granaries and aqueducts, advanced farms, nets, fisheries, and still some cities riot. Even one new city with Pop=1!!!

If I put all my workers in the 'field' and them hit the max Food button, a bunch are removed and placed as Entertainment Specialists. Why? It seems that I need all workers in the fields/sea farming.
    What and I doing wrong?

Second question, I just discovered that my Cannons can only Bombard when one tile away from an enemy/city. From what I've read, I should be able to bombard from six tiles away??? I've experimented with units.txt and have not been able to change the bombard range... How do I do it?

    Thanks
    Tom

You need to keep your happiness above 73 in order to prevent riots. When you press the max food button its adding entertainers because you are below this threshold, and you won't get any food if the city riots.

Your happiness problems are probably being caused by having too many cities for your government type. What government are you in and how many cities do you have?

Cannons have a range of one, and a ranged attack of six.

I'm early in a game and have a Theocracy and 17 cities. Riot examples:
        city 16: pop=2; happiness=71; Net Food=0:
        city 14: pop=3; hap=71; Net food=0
        city 6: pop=4; hap=71 Net food=0

My city happiness range from 70 to 74.

Wow, I had no idea that happiness effected production so much (plus my long work day)
OK, I'll get to work on improving Happiness and see how that works out.
        I've tried everything but that!!!
        Thanks EPW

OK, I'm having trouble with the terminology here.
I believe my Cannon has a Vision Range of 1
A movement Point (Range) of 1

But the Ranged Attack (Ranged Strength) of 6 is what is confusing me.
I guess in a stack they will be 6 tiles away from the front attack line, but does that mean that I can't stack several Cannons 3-4 tiles away and Bombard?

Oh, its a workday/wages/food slider issue causing the problem then. Adjust them till the cities have 73+ happiness. You'll have Net food of 0 from cities that are rioting.

You're confusing the bombard ability with the ranged attack. Bombard lets you attack a sigle unit adjacent to your unit without risk of retaliation. A few later units can bombard from 2 tiles away.

When you attack another unit, its a fight to the death. There are up to two battle lines in on each side in such an attack. Units in the back row will attack or defend with their ranged strength, while units in the front row will use either their attack or defense strength. The bombard range plays no role in attacks.

Cannons have a ranged attack as well as the bombard ability.

Yea, confusion is my middle name as I'm probably reading too many guides and threads and misunderstanding them too. I learned about the Unit.txt file and was looking for how to 'correct' the bombard distance... now I'll just get back to playing the game..
Thanks, EPW for your help and I'll probably be back for more

What future units can bombard from 2 away?

I don't think any units in this game can bombard from more than one tile away.

Well, I guess bombers kind of do. Because they can go out 4 tiles bombard and come back with no retaliation.
