  • A new place for the ladder?

We are having some chatter over at the CtP WePlayCiv forums about creating a new PBEM league.

I've expressed reluctance to create a new ladder unless we can create something better than we already have here. quinns has done great work maintaining this ladder for a long time, and I don't want to simply destroy that on a whim. quinns has also welcomed a new ladder, IF it is run properly and supported. But if a new ladder is to be created, (in mine, and quinns opinion) it has to have the support of the players here.

So this post is basically to ask the players in this ladder: How do you think the ladder could be improved?

And another question: Would you consider joining a new ladder if it were better than the current one? (better can be anything you choose to think of - appearance, stat keeping, game reporting)

Please understand this is not a "Come and join our ladder instead!" type post. The only thing I am concerned with is the CtP1/2 communities, and making them stronger. So the answers to these questions can also be applied to a new ladder here at 'Poly, although the framework for a new ladder is already in place at WPC and could be created right away. I also do not know the new 'Poly owner's intentions toward CtP at this time. Frankly I think they have bigger fish to fry fixing other parts of the site first.

Anyway, here is an example ladder we created at WPC: http://www.weplayciv.com/forums/ladd...p?do=view&id=1

    I echo Maq's sentiments.

many here in the community know me, this is my favorite civilization game and have done everything I can to properly promote it.

Lets see what we can do to make this a better ladder, tighter community and more competitive and exciting gameplay

Dilution is the solution to pollution. So . . . if we are pollutants, than diluting us between challenge ladders would make us go away. Not good. My vote is for one ladder, one spot. I don't really care where, but it needs to be a place where people can find us. When you type "Call to power multiplayer" or "CTP PBEM" into google, our ladder (wherever it is) better show up. That's how I found this place and I'm guessing that's how others find it.

What is the whole impetus for the new Civ site anyway? It looks exactly like this one . . . at least the forums do anyway. I barely check these threads enough to know what's going on, I'm sure to fall behind even more if I need to be checking two sites to keep up with what's going on.

Lastly, I was interested in at least glancing at the new ladder to see what it looks like, but I have to sign in and register and all that to see it. Much too difficult for this lazy man. Can we make it available to unregistered viewers? I think it would be more likely to draw people in that way as well.

            To: The Happies

Let's give them some time over at WPC. You make some real good points. For me, the jury is still out as which decision to support. I'm waiting to see what is offered over at the WePlayCiv (as-well-as-other-games) site.

Those are my feelings as well thehappies, especially new players trying to find a game. But even if things were to move to WPC I see no reason they can't find that site just as easily, either from a link here, or google results given time.

Either way I can't see the ladder moving sites in the near future. Nor can I see the facilities to create a better ladder appear here at 'Poly.

Lastly, I was interested in at least glancing at the new ladder to see what it looks like, but I have to sign in and register and all that to see it. I'm guessing it's to avoid spam bots and general spamming of the league.

Why is it immature? It's the only explanation for the site split that I've come across.

Locutus and Solver have said they were planning a new site long before that incident happened. Considering the disagreements they had (and still do I guess) with existing members and former mods on how to moderate Apolyton, and considering all the software problems 'Poly still has, I'm willing to believe them.

But if you haven't noticed, Solver and Locutus continue to help Apolyton with it's current server problems, so this "split" is nowhere near as bad as some on Apolyton would have you believe.

So how exactly do Pandas figure in to all of this?

Asher called Dale something involving pandas, and Dale deleted Asher's posts and made threats to him in a private message. Internet drama ensued. I think that's the general gist of it.

I (partially) see. Oh well, it seems to me that if you can't take insults without inappropriate reactions, you probably shouldn't be moderating. This is why I don't moderate.

Hmm... These are divisive comments. We are already beginning to see the signs of splitting our small CTP group. Let's not continue down this path. It's just a damn game -- but it's fun! EPW and Gramps... Shake hands and let's move on!
