  • Unofficial CTP1 Tournament Thread

    Welcome!

The official home of this tournament is at the weplayciv site:

However, since this tournament was organized here I will maintain this thread as well.

There are 10 participants in this double elimination tournament. In a double elimination tournament you must lose twice in order to be eliminated from the bracket. The initial seeds have been chosen randomly.

    The Tournament Bracket:

This set-up may seem rather peculiar, especially in round 2 where the loser of game 1 doesn't move to the loser's bracket but rather stays in the winner bracket. This is a consequence of having ten players, rather than 8 or 12.

Another peculiarity is that games 13, 15, 16, 18, and 20 are played only "if necessary". This is because it is possible that one of the players has already been eliminated from the tournament by losing twice previously, and the game need not be played.

    Standing and Game Status

    Rules & Settings

The following rules and settings must be followed by every player.

    Tournament Mod
The tournament mod must be used for all games in the tournament. The tournament mod is a combination of 3 mods commonly used in normal ladder play:
    1. Quick Start mod
    2. addme Messages mod
    3. KillAI mod

    The Quick start by Keygen
8 predefined advances: Agriculture, Toolmaking, Mining, Domestication, Bronze Working, Stone Working, Religion and Ship Building.
1 bonus discovery randomly selected between Astronomy, Theocracy, Monarchy, Geometry, Iron Working and Writing.
    3 free caravans.
3 settlers with increased movement by 900, totaly 1000, only for the first turn. After that turn the settlers' bonus movement will stop existing.
10.000 gold and 5000 infrastructure (public work).
1st city to be built within the first 5 turns will grand population of 3, bonus good within the city tile, 2 phalanx, 1 mounted archer and 1 settler.
2nd & 3rd cities to be built within the first 5 turns will grand population of 2, 2 phalanx, 1 warrior and 1 settler.

    addme Messages mod by Mathematician

This file allows each player to individually configure whether he likes each of the following features:
    - city growth messages
    - bombardment messages
    - empty queue messages when the last item in the queue was any unit, instead of just a settler-type unit
The questions are asked at the beginning of the first turn of each player. Also, the selection can be changed
later in the game by pressing the "m" key.
    KillAI mod
Kills the AI at the beginning of the game.

    Installation

1.Download the mod at the bottom of this post
    2.Extract into your ...\Civilization-Call to Power\scenarios\ folder

    Dual-Dual format
All games will be played in the dual-dual format:
Two games started simultaneously on the same randomized map with starting positions swapped. First one to win a game wins the match.
How to set up a Dual-Dual game is described later in this post.

    Map Settings

    Map Size: HUGE
    Map Type: DOUGHNUT
    Map Characteristics(From 0-100%)
    Wet/Dry: 30
    Warm/Cold: 30
    Ocean/Land: 40
    Island/Continent: 50
    Uniform/Diverse: 70
    Few/Many Goods: 80

    Rules
    Difficulty: Deity
    Ruins: On
    Pollution: Off
    Bloodlust: On
    Barbarians: Roving Bands
    No Wonders
    No Nukes
No AI (Will be killed on first turn)

    Victory Conditions
Conquest only. Players can resign at any time.

    Status Reports
Please post when a game is started or ends, and every 25 turns or upon request so we know how the games are progressing.

    How to set up Game
    1. Go into the PBEM menu
    2. Load the tournament mod
    3. Enter the correct settings
    4. Launch the game
    5. When presented with the email menu, do NOT enter the player's name and email like you normally do. I recommend a format like the following:
    P1 Blue | tourny, Game #
    P2 Orange | tourny, Game #
    6. Press Okay.
    7. Before you do anything, save the game. If you used a format like above, the default name should be okay.
    8. play your turn as usual
    9. Send both saves to your opponent

    How to load a game
If you did not create the game, on the first turn you will receive one normal PBEM save and one regular save. In order to open the ladder, you have two choices:
    1. Put it in a save game folder such as Civilization-Call To Power\ctp_program\ctp\save\games\1234 and load it from there.
    2. Add the .csg file extension to the file and load it like a normal PBEM.

After the first turn, you'll notice that one game is half a turn behind the other. In order to correct this, you'll need to skip the leading game for one turn so that they will play evenly.

EPW said over in the WePlayCiv thread:

How about, on "Odd" Rounds, the "Odd" Player creates the game, and on "Even" rounds, the "Even" player creates the game?

                    chadisangry has dropped out.

Following this I'm dropping out, to leave 8 players, so you can organise this thing easier.

OK, I got the quick start mod working, but now I can't find the save. The save folders listed in the open dialog box in-game have no resemblance to the folders in the save directory in the game folders.

                          What am I missing?

Maybe it is a good old WindowsXP, Decimatus posted the following solution to a Vista file problem:

Ah, windows search finally found it. I only had to search my entire C drive to locate it... It somehow went to Uses/User/App Data/Virtual Store/Program Files/Activision/CTP/etc

Thanks Martin, that worked, although it was C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Civilization-Call To Power\ctp_program\ctp\save\games.

I find the Vista explorer difficult to perform searches in - I had searched for everything modified in the corresponding time period in all drives and subdirectories, and it didn't come up.
