  • CTP Hangs on Installation with Vista

I am trying to install CTP on Windows Vista, the game installs real fast up until 96.6 % and then hangs up. The pictures in back ground (The various renderings from artists table) show rotating in background but it wont go beyond this.

I go to task manager and end installionation, and it says dxmedia.exe encountered a problem.

    Any suggestions?

Here is what I have tried so far, minimal install and maximum installs, both no good.

I then went to an older cd of Call To Power which didnt have the patch installed on it and same deal, no good, minimum or maximum installed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Finally got it installed.

Now when I save a game and then go try to reload, it says scenario not found.

I seem to remember this being a problem for XP, anyone remember the work around?

    Thanks

It would be great if you would post the steps you took in detail to successfully install and run CTP Bruce :v:

Follow the direction within, these are the 3 dll files necessary, thats all you need out of the zip attached below

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: OVERWRITE THE FILES, DONT SAVE OLDER ORIGINAL FILES OF THESE THREE ONLY!

            C:\Program Files\Activision Value\Civilization-Call To Power\ctp_program\ctp>>This is where you need the anet2.dll

            C:\Program Files\Activision Value\Civilization-Call To Power\ctp_program\ctp\dll\net>>This is where two files go, named wudplan.dll and winets2.dll.

In addition, go to C:\Program Files\Activision Value\Civilization-Call To Power and then right click on the .exe file (should be either a "S" ICON or an actual picture of the CTP ICON and look for the TAB That says "COMPATABILITY" click on there an click the box "RUN IN COMPATABILITY MODE" then click on WINDOWS 95

            Then click apply

You should restart your pc then

            All should work fine now.

I have one small issue for some reason, when I try to start game from a program file shortcut I get a crash, however, when I simply go to my computer and the drive my CD is playing in and click that all works like a charm!

            Hope this is helpful!

One other thing, the ZIP states it is for CTPII but works fine for CTP, thanks to the good folks at CTPII, and not sure exactly, but they deserve the accolades for this, I believe like maybe 2 years ago for an XP work around

                    Hi all,

So, my brother and I am trying to load a saved game that we just saved, but it won't work. We got the 'Scenario not found ' error. However, after I installed all the files and set the executables (both the civctp.exe and the playctp.exe) at windows 98 compatibility mode, it still gives me the same error. I know I have the most recent version of the game, but it still won't work. What could be wrong?

That is a strange one. Are you actually using a Scenario, or is that just the error message you get?

Also, have you tried replaying the turn? Sometimes it is just an error in writing the saved game file...happens fairly regularly in PBEM games.

I found out how to fix it. Apparently, I had to delete all the MP saved games after installing the dll's. So we lost our old game. Thanks for your help though.

I'm trying to install on Vista and when I downloaded the zip file, 7zip says it can't open it.
Am I the only person who's had this issue?

                          I need my Civ fix!

Either your unzipper is broken or the zip-file. I guess it is your zip-file, so download again and see what happens.

I've downloaded it several times and tried several different unzip utilities and it is still saying the file is invalid.

Any other ideas or does anyone else have this file?
