i can't get my email turns to open, every thing was working fine until i had to reformat then i reloaded ctp and 2.1 patch , now the games i had in progress won't open. It says download error- the .csg could not be opened because of an unknowen error, please help, i've invested alot of time in these games-any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

As far as I know there is no 2.1 patch for CtP. The last official patch was version 1.2. There's a "1.21 hack" available from the download section at Apolyton.

ok your right its 1.2, but i still have the problem of not being able to open email games, i've reinstalled once again and for some strange reason the installer says my computer does not meet the minimum requirments but can install anyway, even though by all accounts this is a newish computer

Try to associate .csg extension with "civctp.exe" located in the following path: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Civilization-Call To Power\ctp_program\ctp"
Or try to open the turn from within Call To Power.

If that doesn't work try to run Call To Power in compatibility mode, if you're running Windows XP or 2000.

If that doesn't work either then find out if the games were created using a mod and install it.

If all the above fail then I can't figure out what the problem might be. More information will be required...

thanks for the reply, i tried to associate .csg with ctpexe that just launches the game, cant access the email game. i'm not quite sure if i can start within the game - i've tried but no luck. i think i started one of the email games myself , so no mod was used. as for the compatability mode which option should i pick, i've only used win xp none of the others or should i just randomly try each one

well that did'nt work, as requested i'm sending a saved game , also when i use the" open with" option i can't get anything to happen, it works ok within my email but not via my desktop, not that that really matters as nothing seems to be working anyhow
well i tried to attach pbem game but it says its has an invalid file extention, is there some way i can still attach it?
as you can probably tell i'm not very computer savy
i tried saving it as rar file maybe that will work

well i may have screwed up even further, i tried the 'open with ' section on the desk top and hit 'Internet explorer ' just to see what would happen, and guess what, it just won't let me browse to ctpexe as i wish to, so now all turns open with IE, its just totally frustrating--sorry if i totally screwed my game up

just as a footnote, i've tried to see what happens if i use the 'open with' with other programs and that works fine it just won't open anything in ctp folder--strange

I downloaded and played the turn with no problems.

Try to install the game from the same CD you installed it, in another computer and see what happens.

You can associate the turns back to CTP the same way you did with Internet Explorer. Just make sure to check the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option.

thanks at least i know it works, i have the original cd, so i'll install it on another computer and see what happens. as for the association of the file it won't open anything in the ctp folder, any other folder is fine but its a no go for ctp folder

ok, i'm getting closer, i found out that the specified path was still pointing to my old hard drive which i had formatted, not to the new one that i had installed, but it still won't play the ctp emails it just launches the game,( so now i have it associated with civctp.exe)

Do you have Call To Power installed on a different partition other than Windows?
