  • Brief History of reign of Matjaz II.
Young king found himself in the middle of war with two foes.
Strong and wild Scots from north and evil Egyptians from south. In the very first year our slaves was taken from so called Abolitionist. Those Scottish bastards steal our hardly conquered slaves. After a lot of trouble both abolitionist were put to rest. Unfortunately some damage was done.
On the northern see city was founded and named Irkutsk. It is in the middle of three elephants.
Another city of Akademgorodok was founded en the north-eastern side of mountain massive.
To be short great wonder was produced in Kiev. We'll call it East India Company. Those wonder will truly represent fact that we already rule the sea. Many foreign trade routes were pirated in meantime and lots of nets were destroyed.
Our scientists finally discovered meaning of time and constructed clock. They are researching machine tools now.
On last turns there is great danger from north. Our scouts traced some new military units approaching. They are named Musketeers and don't look too friendly. Just in case we ordered training of new pikemans.
Deep on the south we meet some nice guys with mouth full of smoke. They call themselves Cubans. Gift of Republic was passed as sign of friendship.
That was short history of our bellowed king Matjaz II and his prosperous rulership.
    Long live new king!

        • Great turns! The narrative by Math of his reign was both interesting and humorous. Thanks for the great read, Math! Also, kudos to Kralj. "Mouths full of smoke" indeed.

So now it's Cuaich and then Durak (moi) ?

(On the side: I do agree with Platy on building Walls against Slavers, especially for frontier towns. The loss of population we've suffered is really quite outrageous. )

          • Thanks, johnzim. I was surprised how much fun it was to write that stuff.

As for opposing slavers, I prefer to build slavers of my own and let the others try however much they like.

And how did you do tabs in your post ?

            • Forget the tabs. I think I just read the double spaces that appeared in the email notification, but not here, as tabs.

              • I certainly understand your aversion to fixed fortifications, in light of the Maginot Line chapter of military history. In the early stages of CtP, though, it is a quick way to utterly defeat a nasty weapon of any potential enemy. And of course there's a nice combat bonus if open war should erupt. Just my 1/50 of a dollar.

                • Well, yes, fixed fortifications are good if you expect to dig in at a certain position for a long time and want to defend it.
But a slaver is hardly a tank. Thus, I prefer to engage him in the field directly and get a slave as a bonus on top. Actually, it's mostly about the bonus. *g*
So, if the original threat, an opposing slaver, is dealt with in a more gaining way already and the opponent has no army close to city, why build a wall ?

Btw, your post made me look up the term Maginot Line and it was rather interesting to read. Thanks for the allusion.

                    • How long should I give for Cuaich to jump in? I have the day off work today, and would love to dive back into this game.

                      • I don't know if a fixed turn sequence is the best idea anyway. What do you think, Troll ?

                            • Okay, so here's the summary of the 2nd reign of Durak the Small Brained:

1105AD Received 200 gold from Cubans. That's a lot of cigars! Scots (green enemy) massing just to the east of Minsk. Building Settlers and Courthouses.

1110AD Exchanged maps with Cubans, but their lands are mostly frozen waste. No big surprise there! Khabarovsk founded due north of Odessa on sea coast. New South Vladivostok gained a slave from successful slave raid.

1115AD The Scots didn't appreciate it, and counterattacked our raiding force. So we lost the 2 Samurai's and Slaver that had just brought home some new Scottish labor. C'est la guerre. Hebrews (friendly Pinks) open embassy.

1120AD Not much to report. Switching over to more military production, as things are heating up with Scots. Our ships continue to raid enemy commerce with impunity.

1125 Chelyabinsk annihilated by the dastardly Scots! The loss is somewhat counterbalanced by the founding of Magnitogorsk to the south, on the Brown (Egyptian?) mainland. Irish (Lt Blue) open embassy.

1130 Ouch! New South Vladivostok lost to Scots!! A major loss by any reckoning. Durak will be hard-pressed to make up for this great loss of face, not to mention people. On a brighter note, the Irish offer Gunpowder for Machine Tools, which we gratefully accept. Immediately commence building Musketeers to achieve some parity with Scots.

1135AD Kalingrad founded to the south, on the Brown mainland. Minsk threatened from the east by very strong Scottish forces. Moscow1 founded as a westward outpost against Brown. Brown has done little to bother us.

1140 The much anticipated massive attack against Minsk by the Scots finally takes place. Thankfully, due to their hesitation, we've had time to build up the defense. The attack is repulsed with modest losses to the defending garrison. Still, my successor would do well to continue to build strong defensive units.

In summary, we gained quite a bit on the Power Graph. Founded several cities and lost 2. I would have liked to build some Ships-of-the-Line, but was diverted by other considerations. Additionally, the supremacy of our Longships has not been challenged.

                              Veni vidi vici!
