  • Help for a not-so-newbie

    Hey all

I have Civ:CTP (1) and I recently started REALLY playing it... I have some questions (because I don't have a manual for the game) that may seem stupid:

What does the little white shield next to the city name mean?

Is there any cheat that would keep all the other civs at peace with mine, (or something to keep them busy... I hardly get to Monarchy before a civ attacks and I die a slow and painful death) because I would like to just advance my civ and try out all the units.

That's all the questions I have now, but I'll probably have more... thanks!

I think it means that you have a unit in the city, but it might mean that you have a unit fortified in the city.

You might try playing on a map with the ocean/island settings higher - the AI works rather less well on such maps.

Well, we can be a bit slow, but we'll do our best to help you .

Now that you mention that, I had a white shield on every city, and I had at least 1 unit forified in every city.

OK, I'll try ocean/island settings and see if that helps...

Another question... what form of government eliminates warriors?

      Thanks!

        Some more questions...

In C:CTP1, does it matter which civ I play? (Roman, Greek, American, Irish, etc.)

If so, which is the best?

Can I make contact with civs not listed in "Diplomacy" but I can see some of their units?

        Thanks!

No it doesn't. Apart from city and leader names, of course.

I don't really get the question. Without moving your unit next to it's, no, you can't.
The Chuck Norris military unit was not used in the game Civilization 4, because a single Chuck Norris could defeat the entire combined nations of the world in one turn.

No government eliminates them. Certain techs will make them obsolete (so you can't build them any more), but your existing ones will never dissapear.

Well, I never have sent greetings to them... they always send me greetings... I wasn't sure if I could do that or not...

which make great cheap listening posts

put them around the map just off what would be a nice travel route for your enemies and catch a glimpse of troop movements
