  • How to increase the CTP mapsize?

    hi there,

is there a possibility to increase the mapsize of CTP1? the userprofile.txt made me think that this could be possible, but when i replace the "3" with a "4", CTP breaks down when starting ...

    anyone another idea?

    br, Pit Dralon

If you want to change the map size you'll need to alter one of the text files in [your ctp folder]\ctp_data\default\gamedata\. I can't recall which one, though. Try map.txt first - that's the obvious place.

I allways try changing the CONST.TXT file

toward the bottom you see the 4 defined sizes

      on a matter from experience, I wanted this mega map so I tried a 300 X 300

very good but then you get great bl;otches of mountians with no grassland (no way to grow since mountains have that little food issue )

Then the ai would often just wander not settling

I went to work on river length, and also percentages of terrain

just a little advice from a non-professional modder

      many things to consider

in the userprofile.txt thats a great way to have many civs

then you have distance issues with travelling to find a new civ and if you battle you have the distance from capital penalty

Have fun and great to see more new faces here

problems with increasing map size in CTP1

          hi grandpa troll,

this weekend we (2 persons) started a hotseat game with 136 x 200 map size.

but then we came to a point where we couldn't go on with the game because we could not get farer than 1100 A.C. ... the game quitted without problem message.

we took about 5 attempt in different setups ... no way.

i mailed the saved game to me, where i tried it on my computer ... the same problem.

do you know about problems with playing a CTP1 with increased map size? or anybody else?

          br, pit

            I had allways p[layed a 1:2 ratio

            i.e. 100 X 200

            or

            (70 X 140 default for gigantic)

Not sure why it did that to you?

              hi grandpa troll,
em ... some posts up you told me about your attempts with 300 x 300, so i could not see any reason against 136 x 200. it fits very good into the overview in the left bottom corner :-)

              what does that mean:
"Not sure why it did that to you?"
can you explain to me in simple words (my schoolenglish is 20 years ago).

              regards, pit

yes some good results but some not so good

its an odd size but again, I am not sure thats the reason for your problems
