  • CRC Error

I've just reinstalled CTP after a long hiatus. Before, I'd played it on my Windows 98 SE machine. That machine's long gone, of course. Now, on my Windows 2000 Pro computer I keep getting at CRC Error.
When I start up I get the splash screen and I choose to play. It then crashes out and come up with an uninformative window with CRC Error: 1F3F-CEDC
Has anyone had any encounters with this error?
I'd really like to relive old times, but it seems I'm currently thwarted.

Well, I've tried reinstalling in many different ways, without a change. Think my CD's bad or something?
Oddly, I did just get this error (cyclical redundancy check) on one of my burned CDs after I gave up on getting CTP to work.

Your CD-ROM drive may be the culprit if your getting the error on more than one CD. One way to test it is to just try copying the entire contents of a few different CDs in addition to the ones you already tried into just some folder somewhere. You can delete the folder afterwards. The error will probably be especially likely to rear it's head if you do this with files of 100+ MegaBytes.

Good Luck! I hope you just have a couple of bad CDs. They will be less expensive to replace.
