I am completely unprepared for war, so that would not be my preference naturally! We can choose a turn far enough out for reasonable preparations if you'd like, although that will resemble mnost of the other games I've played in that it is decided by conquest. Entirely legitimate, if you want to go that way.
What turn does the game normally end at? We can certainly continue to play through until then and go for combined score, although that is easy for me to say because I think that puts me in front. If you have been expecting and preparing for war (blood-thirsty person you are!!) than we should incorporate that expectation into the end game. If not, let's race to space and/or end turn scoring.
