  • Grandpa Troll's Story Time

I am by far removed from the leader of the pack of storywriters here

I have dabbled a little in CIVIII and somewhat in some pbem games

I am going to try my hand at writing a story along the lines based on a single player game

Let me know how ya like it/dun like it

    Chapter One

As Americans and landing on a new un-chartered land, we find ourselves in a most uncertain position.

I know we have what it takes and over the course of time we will grow, but to which direction shall we head?

    Science?

    Military?

    Economic?

I feel getting a good city producing civilization setup is an important start.

We find a nice river that empties into what appears to be a body of water, perhaps an ocean and at the very least a large lake.

We find a beaver dam close by. This is great. We will have pelts for the clothes and perhaps maybe find someone who needs and has something we should want.

Soon we have built 6 cities and now have several beaver dams and also a sugar cane field built up as well. This will sweeten our berries from the nearby forest.

We decide to put a small defensive garrison in each city.

The cities are growing pretty good once a granary was voted on as an excellent city improvement, with food being digested making the city to grow quicker and thus be more productive.

We found what appeared to be a wooden hut, abandoned but had some direction to outfit our horses, with a saddle, or so it was called and a stirrup which would make it easier to ride as well as wrap armor around the horses to protect them. Brilliant!

Soon, our people came together in one accord and we have decided to vote and meet after church services and came away with Theology as a common ground for our belief systems.

I am very excited at what the future has to offer.

      Chapter Two

Then the cities that were once uncertain now take a definitive form of their own.

We have encountered the Greeks and for no known reason, they don’t care for us. Perhaps time or even a few well-placed attacks will change their attitude.

We have spread out, found some nice mountain ranges and more goods that could help our countries economic future. I am not looking to war with anyone and hope we can all learn to get along.

I need to get a QRT (Quick Response Team) incase we need to thwart over zealous neighbors.

I now have a better view of our landmass and ocean setup. I have encountered some tobacco near an inland chokepoint and decided this would be a great area to setup for trade. It additionally has some hills and 2 mountain ranges. This looks great for growth although mining will work for now. Later we will plant some fertile grassland farms.

I have been pleased overall with the makeup of our city improvements. I have heard rumors of slaver units possibly making a run at our people. This is totally uncalled for and will be dealt with. I am having thoughts that instead of war, perhaps I could myself hire and employ a few to do some subversive acts and help my populous grow. I never thought much of slaves, not being natural citizens, they usually need a lot of maintenance and occasionally start uprisings by spreading false rumors or so called promised lands that don’t exist. Shame, lies and heresy are the folly of the desperate few.

The Japanese have shown up and as a good faith effort I have offered the technological advancement of Iron Working. This is my way of telling them we want to survive and offer some help to their future success of the great Japanese people!

        Chapter Three

I was sure glad to find a new path to some better land. I have some mountain ranges and yes have now seen Good Ocean potential.

The Japanese have set a few inquisitive types to look around but it is nothing I can’t handle. Our people are confidant and will seek peace for war is too costly at this point at least.

The Greeks are warmongers I believe.

They were upset with us but moved onward.

Then in less than a few years word reaches us they are at war with Nicaragua forces.

This should cause us to be at the least aware, not worried but concerned.

I have decided to employ 4 of Fat Jacks Slaver Services. I have sent them along with 4 knights and a few roving Knights to acquire any citizens to work in our country.

I may naturalize them at a later time.

I have a few trade routes set and yes the gold is flowing but not so much as is comfortable.

I am sending many settlers to build coastal ports then build up within.

I see a Navy one-day that will patrol our coastal waters and deliver us from any trespassers.

I think the Japanese will not appreciate our population expansion efforts so I will build a defensive force to defend the retaliation that will follow. The world has many civilizations building wonders. This is good but we must focus.

The wonders will come and he wonders will go, but a solid based infrastructure will pay dividends down the road.

Time will tell and that time is now.

Rise America. Rise and lead to the front of the pack.
