    Help!

ok....being new to CTP and loving it, I'm getting to know how all the units work for what.....but.........

I'm fuzzy on the economic stuff???????

I'm playing a blood lust scenario in the king level against 25 civs and had to give up on chasing the economic wonders that help lower maintenance and keep my gold surplus flowing up hill.

Dem thar big guy civs are racing thru wonders like they was locust in a wheat field

I'm holding my own at the moment against repeated military and economic attacks by the dozen. Yes they have them damn CB's!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need more of everything....pw's for terra upgrades, combat units....got my lawer's whew, keep building my city improvements and advancing science advances.

Soon, I can tell them big boys is goin after me with the new bigs stuff and I'm holding with muskets/cannons. Finally got to battleships as the most modern military unit I can produce....sigh!

What works best for you if you are in this kind of position....economics wise...and...NO....surrender is not an option?

I have 12 cities and the average civ has aprx. 10 cities not counting the BIG BOYS according to Fin Fahey's neat little World Report

    Hi Dean!

It's good to see new interest in CTP. I'm a latecomer myself.

Pursuing trade and forming monopolies provide vital gold supply. You didn't mention whether you had any.

Strategic alliances are important. Stronger civs are more friendly to weaker civs.

You are going to need to conquer and expand. Pick a target and have another civ attack with you to divert attention.

Don't attack blindly. Use spies or sacrifice diplomats to get intel. Use bombarding to soften enemy and be sure to stack your attacking force with ranged as well as frontline units. Overwhelming force always works.

    Have Fun!

Like Black Ice says, you gotta love this game.

Yes unfortunately Blackice has not been about lately

      But yes better gold=better science

also on bigger cities that are not production cneters make them science centers

on cities that have 3 good or even 4 use to build up pop and make a big city and then build mp, banks and then science buildings (PH,Acad & Unis)

      Good luck

          Thanks for info guys

I have been tyring to have all my cities have equal status: improvements(buildings) and so on.

You guys gave me some areas to work on like monopolies. So far, all I was doing was selling my goods and that worked.....relied on population growth to bring in the bucks. Works great if each city has (30+) AND an army to protect the turf....but....getting there in the king level is a weee bit harder....whew!

Gramps: I made up a sort of custom scenario using the king level and a earth world gigantic map.

          Changed the userprofile.txt a bit.

NumPlayers=26....26 is cool for my pc.

          Pollution=Yes....love this feature.

This really puts the nervy edge on things playing bloodlust! If I can't get the Gaia Controller wonder as fast as I can....things can change radically no matter who is the biggest and baddest. Dooms day is always in the back of my mind.

EnemyIntrude=Yes....they don't stop trying to settle in my turf. Nice additional pain to deal with along with their armies.

AttackEveryone=Yes....seems to make for a lot of wars between everyone....INCLUDING ME!

MaxPlayers=26....new AI civs relacements for dead civs seem to act more like a building civ, rather than a Barbarian civ.

Changed a few things in the DiffDB.txt to see what happens.

          AI/human=100 gold

          AI/human advances=1

          Num_Periods 7
Not sure what this does....fuzzy here too

Anyway: 6th period starts at turn 400 with 2 yrs per turn and 7th period starts at turn 500 with 1 yr per turn.
Allot of turns....but it gives me time to test what all the units can and cannot do at the top end(love them space battles).

I like very hard scenarios to play....frustrating yes....but man do they make you feel alive

Thanks guys and back to the fight.....just got flooded and all cities with me.....You gotta love this game

PS: better gold=better science....got it logged in now....thanks!

I have a few scenarios one where ya get all ww2 units available from Bronze working

and made it like 1 turn per year instead of the like 5 or 10 normal

            I excluded all other units

and made them not ever to go obsolete

basically, a big war machine game

            I made like a HUGE MAP 280 X 280

but sometimes the ai just wanders

            like you I enjoy tweaking

As one modder toild me here..and this was great advice

            TEST:

            EDIT:

            TEST:

            EDIT:

            Ok

Have fun and keep us posted

as an editorial note..I dun like pollution..my little trolls dun breathe so well..

              Super Gramps

Is it for dwnld or can I get the WWII stuff by mail?

That's what got me looking into CTP. I was tired of hex editing an old Dos WWII game trying to make it behave more on a strategic level rather than tactical with help from others....and....sorry as it is....Dos is almost a by gone erra and only die hards hang in there(not much of us left).

Anyway....come to find out....many people I work with are playing Civ III. So I ordered it. While waiting, I came across CTP as I mentioned in another thread I had collecting dust. Tried it and BINGO....I found the game engine I can use with a very nicely done interface(easy) with a myriad of possibilities to toy around with like WWII.

Best of all....I don't need no stinking hex editor(well not yet anyway)!

Been reading every read me downld on editing the mods/so on for CTP and it is finally getting thru to the grey matter up stairs.

A picture is worth a thousand words....SO....how can I beg you for your hard work to check out?

My current game: Hung Hyegyong just started work on the Gaia Controller If he survives....I can keep going with the military advances If not....gots to go for the Gaia.

Getting real iffy if I can take another pollution blast

Using Capalization to keep me gold up. Getting real tired of minor attacks by the bad guys and having to kiss butt....war walkers are on the next advance burner and dem baby's can rock!

                Peace

                Gramps

its a kinda hodge podge of altered files

you simply place in one scenario folder

I sometime salter the const.txt file however thats the one file ya cant alter and use as another game..that file must be default

I simply move the default one back and forth

Will send hello mail in a moment to make sure I got it right.

Scn update: Hung just hung himself....he got the Gaia

But I went for the wrong advance

Can you change /stop an advance and go for a different one mid stream???? I NEED MY WAR WALKERS....the Hebrews are dropping on me from space with heavy stuff....war walkers. I wasn't specific enough about who's war walkers that were suppose to ROCK!!!

There is a "change" button on the Science screen, F3 or from the pop up screens menu on the right.

                            Terrain

I've been playting the game for a while, but have seldon used the terrain changing capabilities. Now that I am playing on GT's crazy maps I find myself needing to change terrain alot more. Is there a reference shet somewhere giving the PW costs of such actions, as well as which terrain(s) are prohoboted from change?

                            Thanks
