  • CONST.TXT File question 11-15-2004

I have 2 pcs within 6 inches of each other on my pc.
I play MP on the WIN98SE based PC due to FAT32 file system requirement and on XP Machine the NTSF File based I play CIVIII & CTP PBEM

I love scenario making and I am considering undertaking a larger map and was wondering if I altered the const.tx file as long as I am NOT playing MP or starting a new game I should be ok, shouldnt I?

I say that because I dont want to screw up a game.

I also say i should be ok..because the game where we play One Free Tech are altered and the host should be ok with other games once that is started.

Ok..just asking, not sure if it was/had/has been answered?

    Thanks

Some of the constants set in const.txt are saved with save games and some are not. I think the ones which are not are not greatly important, e.g. the number of people per pop point of cities, so you should be OK, but no guarantees . Let us know if you discover any notable exceptions.

that explains quite a few things. though i really wonder why it was made this way..

My kinda questioning is like one person says in a game like One Free Tech the host opens the game up to start (call it the host) and all others play the game

I have been told over and over that no files are over written

but yet I continually get odd messages

I am having a ball right now using easymod in a scenario

IIRC my map size (with 8 ai) is 150 X 250 I have had no problems detected and 3 ai are ahead of me on Deity setting through turn 45

good progress so far and all ai are active acording to pg..no "FLATLINERS" which has happened on a few 300 X 600 maps

          Ill keep posted

Are you talking about the incorrect strings being used in messageboxes, on buttons, etc.? That's usually caused by differing language versions of CTP2 - the string databases for different languages are different, and so those strings which have been converted from their "freindly" name into a database index on a foreign machine (e.g. the strings in messageboxes, which are (by and large) so converted on the machine of the player before you in the turn order) end up pointing at the wrong place.
