  • Help with opening CSG files in WinXP SP2

I've installed CTP on a new machine running XP SP2. I have been able to get the game to run by using Compataility Mode. I've run the 1.2 patch, then run a game to allow that patch to write to the registry re: PBEM games. Then I've installed 1.21 patch. When I double click on CSG files, the game starts to the normal start screen, not the CSG file.

I have examined the windows registry, and all the applicable entries appear to be the same as my XP SP1 machine.

I am aware that I can move the CSG file into the CTP saved games folder and open it there (once the file extension has been removed) but I am a lazy type and would prefer not to.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

Does the file association look like this:

    [CTP path]\ctp_program\ctp\civctp.exe -l"%1"

I have a freind with the exact same problem. Have you been able to resolve yet? The game plays fine, but when he attempts to load the email game, It opens a new game. Any ideas?

Well, I'll ask the same question again:

You'll need to patch to v1.2 or Apolyton files won't work. For most mods you'll need Hack v1.21 as well.

Patch v1.2 includes a decent map editor, which may very well be final version of the beta map editor you referred to (but it's been well over 5 years since I last used that beta, so I might be wrong).

AFAIK there shouldn't be any problems. Of course, with the patches installed you can't load games you started without the patch anymore, but with newly started games there shouldn't be any problems.

So finish your existing games and then upgrade. You'll enjoy a much better, more stable and more mod-friendly game on which all the Apolyton files should work fine.
