correction: i almost always used the trick.
i exchanged some emails with Hatschy on how to handle that issue. he suggested that i ask for your opinions.
okay, this is the situation:
i incorrectly assumed farm-under-city-bug was allowed in this game and used it (basically with mines) on 8 occasions (Hatschy's count).
Hatschy has calculated the resources gained from these cases and found that they are roughly equal to what i would have gained from 2 average cities. however, i invested 4 settlers worth of production into it. so Hatschy thinks i might now have had any advantage at all.
on the other hand, as soon as i reach my city limit that additional production will be an effective gain every turn. moreover, concentrating production in a single city is more efficient than spreading it over many cities, so i think i also have gained some advantages.
besides the question whether the advantages outweight the disadvantages or vice versa, i have used something that wasnt allowed in this game.
now the question is: what to do about it ?
i would really like not to have the affected cities disbanded as some of them have already built several buildings, so this would take the buildings with them and severely hurt my game.
therefore, here are some other ideas what to do:
- allow farm-under-city-bug for all players for the rest or some part of the game, while banning it for me for an appropriate amount of time.
- i give out one-time presents to all other civs in the form of money and/or technologies.
- Hatschy edits the game file via cheat mode in a way that removes the tile improvements under the cities. this will, however, cause some problems. firstly, caravans for all players other than me would be cancelled (not deleted) for one turn. secondly, all OFT-related slic code (messages about city growth and bombardment) would be negated for the rest of the game. so this seems like a rather upleasant solution.
now i ask you. what should be done about this situation ? how much do you want to decide yourselves ? how much should Hatschy decide ? for example, you could have a discussion on the general actions to be taken and Hatschy could determine the appropriate numbers (gifts, turn counts, etc..) .
thanks

I agree with the tech gift, though I also agree the non-OFT scenario techs should be given. I'm thinking offer each player tech that they don't have in Renassance or under as conpensation, IMHO.
I'd also be fine with the cheat mode removal, but that's just me.I'm not conceited, conceit is a fault and I have no faults...
Civ and WoW are my crack... just one... more... turn...

how about this:
i give one of the most modern non-OFT technologies out to everyone and disband and refound those bug-cities that dont have any buildings in them once they finish their current production ? (there are no buildings being produced in those cities as far as i see)
Hatschy will check that everything is done right.
