I just purchased CTP and have been trying to install it but it keeps hanging up during installation. I have tried using task manager to quit all unnecessary programs before starting installation, and I have made a shortcut to the setup program and switched the compatibility to win 95, but still no luck. The farthest it has gotten has been about 16%, and although the music continues playing and the images keep cycling, I can leave it running all night with no further progress. Any suggestions? Thanks folks!

I would suggest that you clean your CD off, as in many games I have had the same symptoms and it ended up being a hair or a small bit of debris..
Just a thought is all
Maybe also try to rebott (restart) your PC then try..
PC's are queer as folk animals...
Hope either helps ya!

I am running CTP on XP its just that their was a severe compatibility issue with Multiplaying, BUT that has been back-burnered by the fact we dun have sa server now..well..we are working on one but XP + CTP is fine for Single Player as well as PBEM which is a lot of fun!
Hope this helps and come and git some!!
Peace

Well, Grandpa Troll, I took your suggestion and cleaned the cd and tried again. It hung up again, but it got a little further, so I just kept restarting the computer and restarting the installation process. Eventually I discovered that if I just popped the cd out and replaced it when it stopped loading, then 2 out of 3 times it would start up again. Now it's all loaded and seems to be running fine. Not sure what the real problem was, but thanks for the encouragement in getting past it!

RE: xp
I have one machine w/xp running CTP just fine. I have a Dell XPS laptop fully decked out that won't run it. I get the Play More Quit screen, but it won't load.
Please help. Send e-mail if you can. krazymike@gmail.com

I just grabbed my old Civ: CTP disk to put onto my brand new Dell desktop, and as soon as I click on 'Play', the damn thing takes me right back to the desktop.
I assume this is pretty common, but I'm clueless right now.

>did you install it?
Er, yeah. It's installed, doesn't prompt me to insert CD or anything.
It runs fine on an old machine, (Win 98 Pentium II) but on my new PIV Win XP SP 2 computer, it's doing the same 'hit play and return to the desktop' that other people are seeing.
I've tried installing a few times, so it's definately not the disk surface. I have no idea what it is though.
