  • TCP/IP Viable alternatives?

I am not the guru of PC Connectivity, however, I sure play me a lot of other MP Games. That being said, many TCP/IP connected games have a place to put your ip address in and go to the game..(IIRC, games such as Alpha Centaurai,Ages of Empires & CIVII were but a few I connected this way)

Is this possible and if so where would one put our "fingerprint (like say 215.23.45.6) or whatever it would be?

    Ok..just thinking outloud...any suggestions?

    Peace

Ehh I fear CtP won't support DirectIP.

CtP2 is on the better side, we have te code for it, and theoretically could add anything. Though don't get your hopes up - the CtP2 network code is very buggy as it is, and we don't have any network programmers, so addition of DirectIP does not seem real in close future.

Checking the code for CtP2 quickly... found lots of stuff which has placeholders, but is not implemented. Theoretically, the code where it sends packets to a server could be made to send packets to a specific comp... but I am not sure whether any extra software is needed, or if the server part is built in in the code. Maybe someone with a better understanding of network codes could look at that...
