Through turn 1 and no complaints from anyone about starting postions!!

It looks like you were right, Dimytes, about the 0% wet/dry and 0% warm/cold settings. The starting positions seem very equitable. I did some tests with those settings and nearly every test gave rivers to each player. It seems that is the case with this game. I hope you all have a river within 1 tile of your starting position.
