  • Problem with advances???

    Hi,

    I have just installed CTP on a win95 machine. When I craete a new game I find that a number of advances have already been completed for my civilization. This may sound like a good thing! but there's one big problem. Tool Making. It claims I have completed toolmaking, yet i can't build tile enhancements (yes I have the cash)!!!!

    Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, have tried full install and small install to no avail. Have tried applying 1.2 patch with no effect. This is really starting to annoy me!!!!

    Can NE1 help?

    Thanks

    In CtP2, you can't build tile improvements with Toolmaking.

    Farms come with Agriculture, Roads with Trade, and Mines with Slave Labour.
    Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

        According to the big poster thingy that comes with the game Toolmking gives roads, slaver, warrior. trade gives caravans

        I did have the game working without any problems at one stage. But since I wiped my system and started again the games gone AWOL.

        e.g roads, to build roads Tool Making is required and between 60-400 gold. But I can never build any of the stuff you get when you press the hammer jib thingy at the bottom of thr screen, I can advance to the Diamond age and still not be able to build any of these???

        Mines -> Mines
        Roads->ToolMaking
        Fortifictaion->Stoneworking
        Nets->ShipBuilding
        Farms->Agriculture
        MarketPlace->Domestication
        Fisheries->Ocean Faring
        Maglevs->SuperConductor

        I can have all of the above advances But not be able to build any of the tile improvements associated with them!???

          No, to build roads you need PW not Gold, if I remember correctly the PW tax can be raised on the national tab.

            Ok, Maquiladora is right. this is Civilization: Call to Power, not CtP2. Still I've no idea.
            At which point does it not work?
            You can press hammer button?
            You can select a tile improvement?
            You can drag to a location on the map and see the image hang over it?
            Or does it then not allow you to place the improvement.

            Things to check:
            You have enough public works for that tile improvement on that terrain
            You own the land (if necessary for CtP1 I forget)
            Somebody hasn't set the building time to some stupidly high number
            Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

              webamoeba, if it is CTP1(Call To Power) then post in the CTP forum to get more usefull help - most of us have played the first one, but it might be a while ago(about 3.5 years for me!).This might explain your confusion to our answers?
              then nip out and buy CTP2 and enjoy the better game

                    And one other thing to remember..
                    Say for instance roads..you can only build within city radius..
                    then one at a time.place outgoing to connect to another city
                    I hope I am making myself clear..in that you cannot simply put a roadway tile improvement say 6 tiles from your city..you must first connect from your city moving outward.

                    Heres a trick though
                    have a couple settlers..
                    build a city..then build roads going each direction out.

                    disband city and roads still there.

                    Works same for Listening post..near your enemy..er..um.."NON-Allied" opponents...territory

                    Just trying to help my friend!

                    Peace

                      Yes..its on left side of screen just above science clicker..

                      Heres a neat trick I learned Hard way:

                      Say when you have communism..although it works for all govt.

                      Try setting your PW to 100 for a turn or two

                      If you have nice production cities..you could easily get 6,000 PW with a single turn with 25 cities built..

                      nice way to get a jump on pw!!

                      Peace
