Question about international trade routes

What are requirements for inter-civilization routes establishment ?
I can see cities of other civilizations but have no option to trade with them.

If I remember correctly, you have to know of the existence of the foreign cities, and of course you must have the good they demand. (Well that is CTP2 I think.) In CTP1 you have to offer the goods on the free market for a certain price. It never worked when I tryed this. I only was able to establish trade routes with other civilizations, when they offered a trade route.
