I added new units to the gl.str file. There is nothing I can figure out I did worng, as I filled in all the correct text for units.txt, uniticon, sptiteID, gl, and even help.str and junk. str, but when I load the game I get a wierd message. Missing text for id "unitname". This problem only occurs with units I gave 2 word names to in English. I even tried making them all one word, and it found problems with the original gamedata, I f someone out there knows how to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. And if I can make it work, I will try to post the mod here (for more info on my new patch, go to ctp_general)

Need help with gl.str

Did you put the new gl files(assuming you made them) for the units in the gl file folder.
There is a gl file folder in the default and english directory structure. So make sure that the new gl txts are in the default/gamedata/gl directory structure.
One suggestion is to use easymod for adding units and you will avoid these problems. You can download it here on Apolyton.
Any other info would be appreciated to help solve this problem.
Thanks

Lines form the script included:
UNIT_JAVELIN "Javelin Cavalry"
UNIT_HEAVY_CAVALRY "Heavy Cavalry"
UNIT_HORSEARCHER "Horse Archer"
etc.
This was a typical error message: "Error gl.str line 298- missing text for id javelin (or) unit heavy.
It saw only the first word.
I did not make gl files, but i saw how other mods got away without em. It only gave me lip on units I added with 2 word names. Ones like
UNIT_SLINGER "Slinger"
were fine.
I even tried making them all one word, but then an even wierder thing happened. It told me it couldn't find "corporate". I assumed it meant corporate Republic.
I few tricks I plan on trying to make it work are changing the text files in uniticon to ones of other units, and possibly going into units.txt and changing the description part to that of a pre-existing unit. More suggestions are welcome. As for the mod i'm making, you can hear about it in ctp general."It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous electronic music."

I forgot. When I load Emod, it crashes with the message "Error reading civpaths.txt". what could be wrong here?"It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous electronic music."

Okay, I thought of what may be causing the problem. I think you mentioned in the general forum that you are using the scenario feature for your modification. Did you edit the gl_str file in the original directory structure or did you create your own directory structure in the scenario folder and put all the modified files in the scenario directory structure. It's pretty important to make sure that if you edit the unit.txt file that the gl.str file is in your own scenario directory structure. If for eg. you modified the gl_str file in the original directory structure and you did not make the corresponding additions to the original units.txt file then it will give you those errors that you are talking about.
About easymod, I think you may have the older version, which may have lead you to the problems you are having now. Make sure you are using easymod version 3.3.

I made 2 folders in the scenario folder, default and english. In default I put all the graphis and in the gamedata section units.txt, uniticon, and spriteid. In my english folder, I correctly edited gl_str and placed it in the gamedata section. I checked all the files over for errors. It gave me that funky error message. I even tried making a new scenario in which i added only one unit, the slinger. I did all the things I mentioned above, but when I loaded it it just dumped me out into window. Not even an error message.
I do have Emod 3.3, but that fishy problem exists even after I reinstalled it. I suspect a mod I have to be the culprit, but i'm not sure which one.
Thankyou everyone for your assistance."It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous electronic music."

Sure did. I put some in icons, some in pictures, and all the sprites in sprites. Theones that had videos I put in that folder."It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. Never mind. Everythings fine now. My problem? Emod needed to be in the top folder of ctp. Look for the mod i'm making around here in a few days. It adds a total of 24 new units and 6 govt types. I have already planted 3 of the units and tested it. It works.
If this mod interests you, I have a thing about it in ctp genaral called "New scenario announced", even though it is actually a mod.
Thanks again everybody."It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous electronic music."
