  • Ancient Age only in Multiplayer mode

Another question for the experts among you.

I made a scenario for three players and placed it in a scenario pack. In the pack there is a default/gamedata in which I placed my specific govern.txt and units.txt files.

For the specific scenario however I wanted some specific functions for the units so in the specific scenario directory I added a specific default/gamedata/units.txt file.

In single player mode all goes well but in multiplayer mode we encounter the problem that advances of the ancient age only can be researched. I have no clue what causes this. Do you?

Well, I'm not an expert but I've read somewhere else that this has happened before and I don't think it can be fixed. I guess you have to make sure that everyone is playing with the same files installed and make sure the # count in the advance text file is correct. That's all I can think of.

      Gemini,

Thank you for your reaction. I have tried all sorts of things (with and without specific files, other host, other computers etc) but indeed was not able to fix it. My conclusion is that it is part of the map itself. I only wish I knew how it has happened.

I was thinking about the problem you are having and it produces the same symptoms as some of the other people around here having problems with thier mods. Since it works in single player it must be the way the other people in your multiplayer games are saving and loading games from scenario's. It's very easy to get messed up, because of the way Activision has set things up. When loading a save game from a scenario you must first start a new scenario game, go to the options menu and load the game from within the scenario.

You can't just load the game from the start up screen or by starting a "normal game" and loading from the options menu. Make sure everyone in the multiplayer game understands this otherwise it won't work and the original files will load instead of your modified files.

        Hope this helps!!!!!!

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately this is not what causes it. Unother thing I tried (and did not help) was to go back to the version I saved with an empty map. The only thing I did from there was giving every player 5 settlers. Even then I had the problem so it seems to have been introduced very early in the map production phase.

By the way, other scenario's we produced run fine and do not have this problem.

Ya, I'm sure it's a bug then, just like the pollution bug that pops up from time to time . Well, if I think of anything else I'll let you know
