  • Setting A Maximum number of Settlers in Single Player

I enjoy playing a scenario wwhere I give a set number of settlers in a game..then exlcude them..this makes folks want to protect the precious few cities they get!!

Can I do this in Single player?

I would like to say set 20 Settlers..then exclude them (except the ones in ruins of course)

    I would appreciate any/all help!

    God Bless

If you mean you want 20 settlers per civ this can be accomplished through slic. What you could do is use the CANT_BUILD(not sure about the spelling) flag in the units.txt for the settler unit, then have a trigger, for each city built it would spawn another settler immediately, until you have 20 cities then you could disable the trigger so there would be no more settlers in the game.

    Hope that helps.

Not real good with slic yet but couldn't u put in a trigger spawning 9 settlers per civ with first round as trigger then flagging them as cant build?

Or i believe there is a setting in the difficulty .txt for how many settlers u start with for each hardness level.

I think the only thing in the diffdb.txt is a chance setting for one extra settler at the start, couldn't find anything about setting a number higher than 2 settlers at the start.

Actually Milkman's idea is probably better than mine concerning the slic idea. You could just write a trigger to build as many settlers as you want at the start of the game using slic.

Or another interesting thought might be to make the settlers obselete with a certain advance.

mmmm..i thank you for that reply Gemini..but what i was hoping for was this..I can start a Multiplayer game...give say 9 settlers..(I guess because of the stack of nine rule in a game is the reason only nine is permitted??)then exclude settlers..start game.play awhile...then i save the game..get out of game..then i go and move file from MP game file to saved single player and continue...offline...was looking more of that..so as i am looking for a place to set up my grubstake..i can be building something else in those other cities...Appreciate the info though..gets me closer to my World Domination according to DrDanger!!..lol

Gemini, love that idea. Can u imagine only being able to build settlers to certain age. Talk about a war strewn game. Either build your cities fast and not much military, or big military and have to go take cities. Great idea. Make for a interesting multiplayer game.

Ya, now that I think about it, that would be a very interesting twist for the game, you could also make a trigger for say a random chance each turn after settlers have been obseleted for one to spawn next to a city, so there would still be the possibility of growth of your empire but on a strictly limited basis. It would definetely lead to a war orientated game I would imagine.
