  • WesW's upcoming (?) Modern Mod

    WesW --

I'm really looking forward to your upcoming Modern Mod. I have one concern, though. I believe it was CD's mod (I may be mistaken; don't shoot me CD!) that eliminated Jet Power and the Fighter. I really think that these should be reinstated. I think it illogical that the first air unit out of the shoot should be the fairly powerful Interceptor.

Actually, as I've mentioned to Nordicus, I think that the history of flight should be stretched out somewhat. Observation balloons, derigibles, and early efforts at aviation are ignored. Space Flight, too, has space planes springing from the forehead of Zeus, as it were. Sputnik, Apollo, and the International Space Station should all be included IMO.

Really dig the Medieval Mod, BTW. Wouldn't change a thing!

    Thanks for the comments.
Jet Propulsion and the Fighter *have* been re-instated for the Modern mod.
I will keep the other suggestions in mind, though I want to put the mod out for play-testing with the current crop of advances (about 24), and new Wonders (about 17).
I will send out advances and unit charts to anyone who emails me a request for them at wesw@hiwaay.net .
I have just started back to college after a layoff of 7yrs. (except for one semester 4yrs. ago), and I will have to put my schoolwork first now. I tried to get a beta edition of the Mod mod out before school started, but was unable to get it finished. I will work on the mod as much as I am able, but I can't give a timetable for it. I hope to get some work done this holiday weekend. (Besides, most people are still getting used to the Med mod 2 and the AAips. )
When I *do* get the beta edition ready, I will start a thread listing the various additions contained in it, and an invitation for play-testors.

      Can't wait!

Just a quick question (which I don't think you've answered before): will your Modern Mod incorporate all the changes you've made in your Medieval Mod?

In other words, are you eventually aiming at a complete revamp of CTP throughout the ages?

      Now that would be cool!

        Thanks, MadCow.
If others feel as you do, would they have Mad Cow disease?

And, yes, the Modern Mod will be an extension of the Med mod 2. I want it to be posted as a separate mod, though, in order to try not to throw too many changes at people all at once.
Believe it or not, this mod will change the Modern and post-Modern eras even more than the Med mods did to the pre-Modern eras.

Actually, I think I will go ahead and start that thread about the Mod mod this weekend. It will just be some pastes of the files I use for reference, initially. However, I don't think that one of the key items can be posted, though. That is the advances chart, which places all the new stuff so that users can see how everything ties together. I may try to post it in a separate thread.

I am gleaning ideas from Nordicus' world map, and anything else I come across. Also, I plan on using some of the triggers the SLIC group is working on, though those propably won't be in the initial beta.

I am making progress with the beta edition. Meanwhile, see below.

          ------------------
Vote for your choice for the Modern mod's slogan!

1)(Paraphrasing Small Soldiers) The Modern Mod: Everything else, is just a scenario.
2)(Imagine Mr. Voice from Rick Dees saying this) The Modern Mod: Dominating CtP like a Leviathan on steroids.
3)The Mod mod: Too cool for its own good.

Submit votes in any Modern mod thread.

              Wes,

You are showing your age by assuming people here would know something about Rick Dees, like who he is. I doubt many of them would.

I recently stopped by a storage unit at one of my rental houses with my 15 year old niece. She saw my old turntable and some records and wanted to know what they were. I was floored. How could somebody not know what a turntable was. After thinking about that, I realized they have only had CD's since my niece became interested in music. Us old-timers tend to forget stuff like that.

But, Don, Rick Dees is *still* doing his top forty countdown. Or don't you listen to top 40 stations anymore, old man?

Btw, I'm still sticking to my plan of waiting out the CD era, and going from cassettes to whatever comes along next.

Will I guess that shows MY age. I didn't know he was still doing that.

BTW, that is what I thought about my 8-tracks when cassettes first came out. That didn't work out to well though.
