  • Need help making Fantasy Mod

    From what I have seen there is no Mods deicated to the creation of pure medevil fantasy if there is one already in progress please inform me.

    I was messing around with the different text files and I always managed to give CTP an error when trying to run it. I was trying to remove all of the Advances, Units, Improvements, etc...

    Is there anyone who has created a very bare Mod that contains only a few advances and units and doesn't crash.

    I am also looking for any one who has an intrest in medevil fantasy. I will need lots of unit graphics. If you have any comments or suggestions please reply. Thanx

    Hi Shavlor,

    If you give me more information maybe I can help you with you're crash.

    CTP should not crash even with very little tech/units/etc.

    Did you change the number at the top of every files ?

      There have been several threads about creating fantasy mods. Unfortunatly Apolyton's serch engine is not working since the forum upgrade.....

        i found the crashes problem it was that I only left the random map scenario. Now I am able to change the units and advances.

        New Question inside the gl files there is the Requires and Gives and then
        REQUIRES:
        Age of Reason (A)
        Machine Tools (A)
        Industrial Revolution (A)
        what are this numbers for? Any help would be great Thanx

        P.S. Still looking for anyone to help in Fantasy Units or Mod. I have seen the Fantasy Units already created and they were great Thanx.

          Hi Shavlor!

          I have begun to make a fantasy mod (I have made the fantasy units packs), but I realised that some key features for scenario making were not included in the 1.2 patch.
          Furthermore it takes too much time to edit(and understand) all the files (especialy the AI files),to make new gfx and to rename everything . So I gave up the mod, but I have some sprites and improvements gfx waiting for an enthousiast mod maker.

          I will try to finish the sprites I have begun and send them to you soon. As I have a lot of work this year, I won't make new sprites for now but I can send you some nice screenshots of units (with all the facing) and improvements (Don't except to receive them before the next week).

          And tell me if you need something else, I'll try to help you if I can.

            Oh, I forgot, I have a little tech tree (~60 techs), but it is in french for now... I will translate it if you want.

            I've tried to make a tech in which you can't get ahead in one branch without researching basic techs. And there is not a lot of magic (only at the end of the tree), because I have a "Tolkiennesque" approach, in which magic should be powerful, but rare and dangerous to use.

              Thank you LittleWing I will be expecting your units. Are this Units bigger than 1 meg if so You will need to send them to another Email account or over ICQ. And yes if you could get me your tech-tree it would be great but I can't read french so if you could translate it would be great. As to the approach I was going to make it be set to your race (Human, Elf, Gnome, etc..) each would have different advances aswhile as units. The other races could acheive other races techs and units.

              I am also expreamenting with SLIC from what I can tell it is rarier easy to give different units different abilities. If any one has any documentation on the new function in SLIC 1.2 I would very much appreate having them.

              I will contuine making this Mod and would enjoy any units meaning (Fighter, Bowman, Elf, Wizard, Troll, etc..) If you have any comments please Post.

                  Thanx little wing. I wasn't exception you to get them done that fast thanx a lot :-)

                  I am running into problems with SLIC and the HasAdvance function if any one knows how to use this and has time please post thanx.

                    Shavlor,

                    Look into my PowerSLICS 2.00 (available in the download area). After installing (you may install it in an empty folder if you don't want it for your CTP version), you wil find the SLIC file in there. I worked with the "HasAdvance" function in my MOD, so you will be able to understand how it is used.

                        I'd love to know how you plan to have unique advances for each race. I've been trying to figure out a way to do this for a while.

                        How do you prevent if from getting researched or stolen?

                          I actually wasn't planning on having it so that you could only have one race. The player was going to be able to have many different races. The advances which grant you the race would cost quite a bit more than a standard advance.

                          But it is easy enough to have it impossible to be researched. The easiest way to prevent people from developing the advance is to make the cost much too great to ever be accomplished. But unfortantly I guess it could be still stolen or traded.

                          A fix for this is to make a varible in SLIC that is assinged to a player (such as Human) then when you learn an advance it checkes the varible and if the player is human than it grants another advance, which gives you a human fighter unit. (this new advance can also be traded or stolen unfortantly). Also there would be two advances for each than. If there is way to have you lose an advance some way then you could check at the begining of the turn and make sure that the player should have all thoose advances. But as far as I know there is no way to do this.

                          You could also use goverments to make it so that you can't have a Elf bowman if you are in the human goverment unfortantly this diable goverments and the advance that enables the goverments can be traded or stolen.

                          Basiclly to sum up what I have just said is I don't beleive there is any definate way to prevent some one from developing any technology. If they gave Slic more power then it would be possiblem, but because it would have to check whenever you get an advance it would be a vary large amount of code.

                            About keeping players from building units not of their race. The aips contain lists that the different personality types use to decide which units to build, how many, etc. If you give each race a different personality, you can then tailor these lists to contain only the units you want that race to build. That way, even if they obtain the tech. to build a unit, they won't build them.

                              Yes WesW, I think this is the only thing we can do now, and it won't require different tech tree. You can even tell a civ not to research some techs (maybe it prevents the civ to trade or steal this tech?).

                              The only problem is with the human player... Aip won't prevent you to build anything...So you have to use slick to do this, but I can't help you for this matter.
