  • units a-plenty!

Throw away all those 63 unit collections, snub your nose at 62 unit packs- I've got a 64 unit collection on its way!

FINALLY, I'm done with my WW2 units. 64 units- what a big task that was!!! Well, done for now, that is. I've got to be travelling for the next six weeks so I figured I might as well post what I've got before I go. The thing is, I have a tendency to miss some mistakes in my modpacks here and there. For instance, I made a couple of incorrect statements in my buildings and wonders mod readme just a few days ago.

So, rather than putting more errors out, I'm hoping someone will want to volunteer to check this collection for errors. In addition to the sprites (.spr), I have upuaXX, upuXX, upuXXb and cuXXf files. But I might have used the wrong file name, flipped the graphic by accident, etc... If anyone would be interested in checking for these kinds of bugs, fast, please e-mail me at: harlant@earthlink.net. I say fast (hopefully today) because I'd like to post this before I go on my trip tomorrow night, so everyone else can see and use them. I haven't had time to make official unit.txt, gl_str.txt, etc... files for them, much less the great library text files. I figure that will depend on how people use them.

By the way, here is the list of the units, all are five angled, except where noted):

Freight (one angled, for trade routes)
    Strongpoint
    Mechanized Infantry
    Panzer Grenadiers

I've got over 20 more units to go, mostly "human" units and bombers, but those will probably have to wait till October. The sooner some kind soul can check these over, the sooner Markos can post em!

I'm dumping all this in Paul's lap, so hopefully he'll be able to check the files and post this WW2 stuff very soon.

One interesting thing I learned while making these units is that apparently the game can support at least 200 units. I actually had about 140 units in the game (CTP ones plus new ones) and I used the numbers between 100 and 200 for all my new ones. They all worked okay. I'm guessing the limit is around 212, due to a strange error I got when I had a unit with that number.

I hope people enjoy these units- a hell of a lot of hard work went into them! I spent three solid days, meaning eating, sleeping and file tinkering, to get all of these converted into something CTP would like. Ugh. I hope I never have to do that again. If anybody would like to pick up the ball and add some sounds or Great Library files to these units while I'm gone, that would rock.

Even though I'll be travelling the next six weeks, I still hope to pop into internet cafes and check this board and email from time to time. Who knows, maybe by the time I get back there will actually be a way to make scenarios (flat map and non-perfect square map support). A lad can dream, anyways.

I am mailing this to Apolyton and Civnation while I type this. It's a 1.5 MB package containing sprites, tga images and text files and a 4 MB package containing tifs and scripts for the sprites. Hopefully this will soon be posted on both sites.

        Checking in from Borneo...

Thanks Paul very much for posting that and checking the files for errors. I can check the internet only rarely so I'm a bit out of it. Has this units file been posted to Apolyton already? I didn't see it so far.

Has Mr. Orgre posted a list of SLIC changes, if any, from the new patch? He did this after the first patch, so I'm wondering why no news now, unless I missed it. Even if there are no changes it would be good to know that.

By the way, Markos you have my permission to change the Mayan leader name and any other Mayan stuff for the Apolyton pack if our resident Mayan expert says it needs changing.

I have not yet seen your units here. I just went to check civnation but got a message that the page was unavailable so they apparantly have some technical problems.

I have also not seen any new SLIC documentation.

I was able to access civnation now and the WW2 units are available there for downloading.
