  • New sprites - ancients first.

I've completed a couple of ancient sprite figures (swordsman and Slinger) and hope to complete a spearman this week and a light cavalry Javelin man no shield (nothing to do with AOE).

Probably going to do a huscarl or phalangite next and then move onto the medieval period. Anyone got any requests?

For cavalry I intend to do a couple more ancient style ones first before I move onto the medieval era. Planned to do an armoured spear cavalry no shield, one with a shield and then a Norman style knight.

This is really great work !

What did you use to make these nice sprites ? (I have only an old Raydream Studio)

I used Raydream 3D - its the cheaper version of the product. Over here it costs £70 compared with the Studio version at £250+. Doesn't do everything (in terms odf some of the painting I'd like to add) but its not too bad.

Spearman's comming on OK so based on timeI get today and tomorrow hope to complete by the weekend.

        Morgoth,

I've been looking for a guy like you. :O Seriously, I've been working on a mod for weeks now, and I would like to add two cavalry units to it, I just don't know how to make sprites. The first unit is an ancient, unarmored lancer (or spearman). The second is a Renaissance Age cavalryman (circa the Napoleanic Wars). I'd like to put this unit in place of the current cavalry, and rename the old one a dragoon, and make it a scout. Finally, there isn't a Modern Age scout unit, such as a jeep. If you could come up with a sprite for it, I would include it, also.

Lastly, I've split up the city walls and fortification improvements. I don't know how many hours I've spent trying to figure out how to make and/or name a new icon for them, but I can't do it. If you could give me any help with that, it would solve the last nagging problem with the mod.

The first ancient cavalry unit is based on a Thessalian/Thracian light cavalry man. No shield just Javelins. He should be ready by the end of the weekend with a bit of luck (We're doing the movement animations now and will do the attack and death next - they're the fun scenes - don't know who else uses the battleground window but I think its the one really good improvement over the single combats CIV II had and I always have it on).

Spearman is getting there Movemnt and attacks are done only the death scene to do!
Wasn't intending to move so quick up to the NApoleonic period but I'll let you know if I have a go. Where you after one of the light cavalry types or a carabinier/curassier type (ie with metal breast plate)?

Jeep wan't one I was thinking o doing I must admit as by then you have planes to do scouting with (or old out of date cavalry!).

            Morgoth,

I was thinking of a sabre-wielding, unarmored cavalryman. I have images of the French charging the British at Waterloo, and Wellington ordering his infantry to shoot the horses. The jeep idea just came off the top of my head as I was typing the post, and I see why it would probably be a wasted unit.
