  • Modifying Dominiques build mod

    Along with Activisions patch and CDs mod 4.2, one of the essential additions to make CTP more enjoyable is Dominiques build mod. (I have not yet tried Harlans leader mod, which may also fall within this category)

    I have altered Dominiques text slightly, but I would like to know if it is possible to give his messages a little more "atmosphere"
    by adding a picture of the improvement to the message. Could this be done by replacing his tutorial icon with the picture from the production que or by including it within the message?... So in addition to being given the message that a granary has now been built in town X you would also see the ICON_IMPROVE_SILO.

    Also, is it possible to stop the hammer icon from appearing in those circumstances when you are told by Dominiques mod that a particular building is complete?

    Any advice on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

    I have just issued a collection of SLIC code calles PowerSLICs 1.1. In it you will find that I have solved the "double message" issue which you have outlined. On improvement icon side, this sounds very interesting. I'll try to do something on that side (but this is no promise it will work...)

      This is great news. I had expected to wait for Activisions next patch in order to get something along these lines. I will certainly install and try out your SLIC mod.
      However from a quick look at it, 2 things strike me,-
      1. You refer to copying "the string code beginning after "INFO_STR.TXT" into your "INFO_STR.TXT" file. I dont see this reference in your code, do you mean the 2nd reference to SCRIPT.SLC?

      2. I dont see which icon you have used to replace Dominiques, in his line
      - messagetype "tutorial"

      However, maybe I haven't read your post properly. I will let you know how it goes when I try it.

      (Now all I have to do is learn German. )

      P.S. If you can find a way to add a picture of the improvement, I think that it would add some atmosphere to the overly text and number based interface.

        Thanks for your comments and 1st bug report :-)

        ad 1. Yes you are right. the second mentioning of "script.slc" should have been correctly "info_str.txt". sorry for that. will post a comment to this in the original thread.

        ad 2. I eliminated the "tutorial-icon" as i personally did not like this icon very much. with my solution, you get a classical red ! as icon. looks a bit more dramatic to me :-)

          I changed the icon to the usual building hammer icon, whats wrong t'with that one really?

          TP, great work with SLIC, i sat yesterday and began on something similar but only to get rid of the double messages. Hope you do some more of the great work, i was wondering about adding a liberary button on the message when you get an advance from a hut, but i havn´t checked if the discovery variables when chosing a new is enabled when you get a goodie hut.

            Sounds like we should try to make a list of SLIC requests. I do not have a lot of spare time so I will have to focus on really important things, but we could use this thread to generate a few ideas for further SLIC work.

            So up to now we have 2 things:

            1. Implement icon in "improvement built" message reflecting the improvement

            2. Implement link to GL when new advance found via huts.

            Anything else ?

                Just a thought... Can additional message icons be added? If so, it'd be kinda cool to do an icon graphic for each improvement...

                  Ok, three things on whishlist:

                  1. Implement icon in "improvement built" message reflecting the improvement

                  2. Implement link to GL when new advance found via huts.

                  3. Additional icons for messages (well, not sure how difficult this will be)


                  Don't expect fast things from me, as I do not have a lot of spare time.

                    3. Additional icons for messages (well, not sure how difficult this will be)

                    4. (Random) information about various ranking of human civ (like in civ2).


                    Mmmh a few challenging things. Sounds like fun for the next days/weeks.
