  • Call To Power locks up when exiting game?

A new problem has started in past week.

First off I have WIN2000XP Professional

    512 RAM
    1.5 Gig Processor
    80 GIG HD
    64 BIT Graphics Card

    No probelms lately except this:

I am in game, either I quit or start new, game freezes up where I am at and cant do anything, so I need to hit "CTRL-ALT-DEL" several times until a task manager pops up, which shows CTP not responding and at bottom CPU resources are at 100%.

Any suggestions?, from what i have experienced WIN2000xp will sometimes get reset on its settings.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to start?

I am having no other problems with any other games or applications freezing up and I play Battlefield 1942 which uses a whole lot more resources than CTP does.

I play AOEII The Conquerors and all is fine. I play Delta Force II Land Warrior or one of the Rogue Spear series and all is fine too??
Just this freezes up when I try to exit, I am fine as long as I continue to play, many games for 4-5 hours straight or as little as 1 hour.

    ~Sigh~

    Peace

Very strange - I don't suppose you can think of anything you changed which might have caused this problem?

You might try disabling any programs which are running in the background (especially virus checkers).

Just to make things clear win2000mexp is winxp, win2000, win2k and or winxp are two different operating systems.

Have you changed you graphics settings in any way?
Did you add or replace you dx?
Before you reinstalled CTP did you add any programs?
When you hit control- alt etc what is running?

            I have win2000XP

            No Graphics Changes

No changes or replacement of DX

No add programs before or after reinstall of CTP

When I hit ctrl-alt-del I get ctp running and my fax modem.

Same as before, except now it does this, hangs up.

            ~sigh~

You can not have win2000xp as there is no such thing, winxp is a combination of me, 98se,win2000 using if you are the nt kernal and an ntfs file system.

I would check your graphics settings, but most important if you have winxp did you make the game compatable with 98se, if so undo that, if not try that.

No problem It happened to me too. Interesting to note here that this little excersise in futility by you and me and countless others, shows that in reality CTP is xp compliant.

That is what had lead me to believe that the servers are not compliant, with regards to our other xp problem.

Trial and error is a life saver let alone a compass of life, let alone the basics of compromise, let alone the reason we have hammers designed for computer repairs.

In trying to find my CTP freezing problem I ran across this thread.

I have the same exact problem that Troll had. But, if I turn winxp compatibility off, the program won't work whatsoever. Get A CRC instantly when I hit play or open a PBEM file.

With win98 (or win95) compatibility turned on, it plays pretty good for a while, but then just freezes as described abvoe by troll.

I wonder how troll is able to run ctp with win98 compatability off?
If it ain't broke, find a bigger hammer.

I now have WIN98SE instead of XP.

But when I had XP..buggy..simply buggy!

Win98SE is working great so I would suggest that as an OS playing CTP.

                          Good luck!
