Having Trouble connecting to metaserver

ok, this is what I do, I press join game when the client starts up. Then I go to the metaserver tab and then I press update. After this I get an error message:
civclient.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm using the latest stable version .14 and I run on XP

Will someone help me figure out whats going wrong?
