  • Creating Custom Civs

I am a new FreeCiv player, but I played Civ1/Net/2 for years. I can't find any howtos or explicit instructions on the freeciv.org web pages or a google search on how to create a custom civilization with a leader name and city list. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You write the nation file, just follow the format of the other nation files in data/nations. You then dump the file in data nations.

You then enable the nation in a ruleset, for example in the default one, by inserting it into data/default/nations.ruleset .

Currently there is an (fairly easily removed) limitation that there can only be 63 nations in a ruleset, so you may have to remove one of the existing ones to make your fit.

Seemed to work pretty well until I added city names. There must be some formatting that I am missing because it barfs when I start the server. I copied a ruleset into newnationname.ruleset. I slowly changed items line by line in the newnationname.ruleset, and it worked fine. I added one city name to the beginning of the list and that worked. I replaced the entire list, and now it won't work, even if I reduce the city list to one name.

What was the error? Maybe you should attach the file here so we can look at it.

No error message is generated.. I can join the server, but when the server starts, I get disconnected.
