  • Need a bit of help.

    Hello,

first message on this forum and Im a bit nervous that
this questions are covered somewhere else where I
don´t have looked. In that case, please just guide me
to it and ignore the silly newbe

Me and a friend started playing Freeciv yesterday and
we had a fun time playing with eachother by connecting
via the IP-adresses. But, its tempting to play with other,
both me and my friend know how we both play and
can our strategies by now, so we tride to connect to
    a metaserver. It didn´t work.

This is the step-by-step by how I tried to connect:

    1. Started up Civclient.exe

    2. Clicked Join Game

    3. Filled in Name.

    4. Clicked on the "metaserver list" and on update
    to recive the complete list.

    5. Chose one from the list that was not running and
    finaly clicked on the connect-button.

    6. Recives errormessage "No such file or directory".

I can´t find where the help for this is covered. To get
rankingpoints and such I suppose you have to register
your handle (name) and then join games, how do I do
    this?

    Thanks for helping out!

    Best Regards

    /Alexander Gyhlesten

I don't know about the error-message. Did you try a server that was in pre-game state?

No, you get that automatically. But they plan to implement registration.

Yes. I even tried 2/3 of the avaliable servers. I find this
very wierd actually, because I´ve read everything
avaliable on the subject but cant find either the error-
message or a solution, so my only hope is that
some smart guy know whats up

      Please, explain how this works.

Ah, so there is no registration - But can´t people just
play as the guy with most ranking then?

Thanks for your help so far,

Just choose a name in the client and join. Just like local games.

Yes. Crappy, isn't it . Actually I haven't been following the development closely, so they may have implemented it already.

I have no idea about the original problem. Try sending a mail to the windows maintainer.
